With rising gas prices, it is imperative to less fuel consumption.
Every time I fill up with gas, I'm on the verge of cardiac arrest.
The prices at the pump are literally skyrocketing... But not my income!
I ended up talking to my mechanic about it.
And he advised me a little trick to reduce my fuel consumption... and save €211 a year.
His trick? Reduce my speed by just 10 km/h to save 1 liter every 100 km .
So what is the optimal speed to save this beautiful sum? Explanations:
1. On the highway, I drive at 120 km/h instead of 130.
2. On the roads, I drive at 80 km/h instead of 90 or 70 km/h instead of 80.
3. In town, I drive at 40 km/h instead of 50.
How do you arrive at €211 in savings?
Let's do the math together:
On average in France, a car travels 12,200 km per year.
The most widely used fuel in France is SP95-E10.
The average price of a liter of SP95-E10 is 1,733€.
By driving 10 km/h below the speed limit, you save 1 liter every 100 km, i.e.:
- 12,200 km / 100 km =122 liters per year.
- 122 liters x €1.733 =€211.42 per year.
And if you do more than 12,200 kilometers per year, you will automatically save a lot more!
There you go, you now know how to save 211€ on gas :-)
Saving money at the pump is possible.
You just have to know that it is better to reduce your speed by a tad.
Believe me, your budget will quickly recover!
Don't worry, by driving slower, you lose very little time in the end.
On a journey of 100 km, it takes only 4 min more by driving at 120 km/h instead of 130 km/h.
And on a journey of 600 km, it only takes 20 minutes more.
Obviously, it works for petrol, diesel and hybrid cars, of course.
Conversely, the faster you drive, the more you consume.
For example, if I drive at 145 km/h instead of 130 km/h, I consume 24% more fuel...
While my driving speed only increased by 11%!
It's exponential.
Yet another good reason to take your foot off the accelerator!
Because you can also lower your speed to 110 km/h instead of 130 or even 100 km/h.
That's more than enough when you're not in a hurry.
