Denmark! That we didn't think of this before. Before, I never thought that this would be an option for us, but this year we went to Lolland-Falster, South Zealand and Møn for the first time. Together with Dansk.nl, The Denmark Holiday Specialist, we mapped out a journey of eight days. I would like to tell you how surprised we are about this beautiful country.
Denmark is surprisingly close to begin with. It is approximately 650 kilometers from our hometown in the south of Brabant to the island of Lolland-Falster. This island is part of the East Danish Islands. This is where we stayed for the first part of our trip.

According to many, the holiday already starts during the outward journey. Well, not with us. With children who often get carsick, I'm more concerned with the backseat than with the environment. Now, however, everything is different. We leave early on a sunny Saturday morning. Normally we always travel south. Now we drive up, through parts of the Netherlands and Germany unknown to us.
We enjoy. All. The back seat also looks around and enjoy! Before we know it we are entering Puttgarden. Without spitting children. And whether Dansk.nl has arranged it for us… we can immediately board the ferry. Waiting time:0 minutes. Actually, Dansk.nl has also arranged it, because they have reserved a ticket for us at Scandlines in advance. It doesn't matter what time you arrive, as long as you buy a ticket that allows you to go all day. Slightly cheaper tickets are also available for specific times.
A large ferry departs every half hour. And it is fun on the Scandlines boat. It's only 45 minutes, but we loved every minute of it. You can even shop there 😉 . The view is the most beautiful. Such a big white boat on the blue sea with a blue sky…. We're not even in Denmark yet, and we're already loving it!
Once in port, it is only a short drive to the Lolland-Falster accommodation. We have indicated to Dansk.nl when booking that we want to relax. Daughter had to recover from the school choice stress and the cito tests and mom from her new job. And our men from us. Holiday park Lalandia in Rødby was reserved by Dansk.nl. They chose well. What a lovely park!
We stay in holiday home Nordic plus. A colorful Danish house with private terrace, very spacious and all the trimmings. Even a sauna and hot tub are available to enhance the holiday feeling. There is also a washing machine and dryer, but I left those behind. After all, it's vacation.
Our cottage is less than ten minutes' walk from the beach and from the center of the holiday park. You can enjoy yourself all week long in this center. So much to do here. Ice skating, bowling, an indoor playground, trampolines and even skiing are possible. But what really matters for our 10 and 12-year-old kids are the ice cream parlor and the "Aquadome", a large swimming pool. Lalandia Rødby is not only fun for the younger children, it is also a true adolescent paradise! And that subtropical swimming paradise; one slide is even faster than the other and for the real daredevils there is the big “tornado”.
Our children no longer have to leave the park. Will they find it! Are they just unlucky, because we have quite a few activities on the program.
In my previous blogs about Denmark, you indicated that we really had to see the chalk cliffs on the island of Møn. So now butter with the Danish fish! Our first activity was a visit to Møns Klint, the Chalk Cliffs of Møn. Denmark's largest and longest chalk cliffs. This is about an hour's drive from our holiday park in Lolland-Falster and the road to get there is relaxed. The East Danish islands mainly have two-lane roads and it is quiet. This way you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings on the way.
First of all, we are extensively informed in the Geocenter Møns Klint, located near chalk cliffs. Gatver… is that some kind of museum? Wow!” † Okay kids, you can think that after you've seen it. Museums and information centers are not a favorite with our children. And our teenager nowadays almost always says "boring" to everything. Still, we dragged them in. Reluctantly. “Mom, come take a look!” We had not yet entered and my son showed us how the chalk cliffs were formed. “Dad, Mom, this is cool! Can I have my phone! I have to film this!” Ever seen water burn? We do! In the Geocenter at Møns Klint! The stupid information center became an interactive, educational and above all very fun outing!
After a nice lunch at the adjacent restaurant we are ready for the chalk cliffs. We had to descend no less than 468 steps to get to the beach. What we saw there was AMAZING! Now I could write a whole blog about this, but the pictures are worth a thousand words. So very beautiful! Only up those stairs again . But that beautiful view is worth all those steps. Piece by piece. Dear readers, you have not said too much. The chalk cliffs of Møn are highly recommended!
Despite the fact that the children also really want to stay at the holiday park, they are really looking forward to going to Camp Adventure. Camp Adventure has a treetop trail. No fewer than ten different courses criss-cross through the forest, three of which are for beginners.
Camp Adventure looks very inviting. Whether this is due to the clear blue sky in contrast with the beautiful green trees, I dare not say. It could also be the atmosphere, because it's very relaxed here. While it's quite busy, it doesn't feel that way at all. The kids find their way right away. One flops into a lovely hammock, while the other joins the campfire. “Chill here” they shout in unison.
https://youtu.be/69bOWKDMCogBefore we start the adventure, we first receive a Danish instruction on how to conquer the treetop course. No ropes can be tied to this. Fortunately, we receive an English-language instruction from a friendly young man on the course. Safety first!
This outing is a bit exciting but very cool! The ziplines are long and some go really fast. If they talk about enjoying nature, this is it. Geez how cool! If this adventure makes you hungry, then you've come to the right place.
Those Danes are just like people from Brabant, real Burgundians. In the courtyard of the Camp Adventure farm there are several food trucks and cozy picnic tables. A drink is not mandatory. Here, but actually throughout Denmark, picnicking is very common. There are nice picnic spots everywhere and you are allowed to bring your own food almost everywhere. Ideal.
The adventure at Camp Adventure is not over yet because an observation tower has recently been opened here. A wooden tower of 45 meters high. When you reach the top, you get the most beautiful view of the nature of South Zealand as a gift. if!!! I dare not go to the highest point. “Mom,… wimp! It's super cool above and really not scary” .
Where I had my fear of heights under control at the chalk cliffs, I now petrify. Five rings before the end. I have to go back. Still I enjoyed it. From the walk through the woods to the tower and the beautiful building. And halfway up the tower the view is already great. This outing was again a bull's eye.
Tuesday is considered a “rest day”. “We're going to go swimming all day Mom. In the sea and in the pool.” It is wonderful by the sea. And beautiful. But even though we have beautiful weather, the sea water is really too cold to swim in. The pool, on the other hand, has a constant water temperature of 26 degrees. And we are lucky, because we can swim outside at the “Aquadome”. I can even read a book outside on a lounger in the sun. But only after I have braved the whitewater course and all the slides, together with my water rats. That look in their eyes, that's a holiday feeling. No arguing, no whining about wifi (which was very good by the way). Just fun.
Wednesday we continue, to another part of Denmark. But before we leave the island of Lolland-Falster, we pay a visit to Safari Park Knuthenborg.
This Safari Park is located in Maribo, a very pleasant village on Lolland-Falster. A visit to the safari park can therefore be easily combined with a visit to the village. That is, if you get your children out of the safari park. Because there is plenty to do in Safari Park Knuthenborg. Of course there are the animals that you can sometimes see up close. But there is also a cool dino forest and a nice playground. In addition, a special surprise awaits us. We witness the birth of a wildebeest.
https://youtu.be/1lROupXrAcAAfter five wonderful days we leave the East Danish islands. Unfortunately. Because it is surprisingly nice and very beautiful here. And we haven't seen everything yet. I will definitely go back here again. The East Danish Islands really surprised us positively, the first part of our trip was great.
Dansk.nl listened carefully to our wishes and gave us excellent advice. Hubby and I thought the chalk cliffs of Møns were the most beautiful outing. Although the birth of the wildebeest was also very special. Our teenage girl enjoyed the Aquadome and the large ice creams the most. Our ten year old daredevil couldn't decide between Camp Adventure and the Aquadome. But what we all agreed on is that we enjoyed it. Plenty! From the sun, the sea and from each other!
Curious what else Dansk.nl has arranged for Erika and her family? Then keep following us, because soon she will tell you about part two of this journey in a new blog. He went to southern Denmark. Would you like to go to the East Danish islands for a low price and be active in nature with your family? Then look here.
