We all find ourselves in this situation when we are behind the wheel:there is heavy traffic on the road and we feel the stress increasing. There is no doubt that trying to drive on the roads, especially abroad, is trickier when there are many other vehicles around. In an effort to reduce your stress on the road and help you enjoy your vacation more, we've put together a few stress-reducing tips.
Departure on time
Always allow yourself enough time, especially when you are on vacation. Why such a rush? By not rushing yourself, you are much less likely to be tempted to exceed the speed limit or engage in other unsafe behavior.
Prepare
Delays are inevitable… and if you don't know the roads you're driving on, take it easy. Try to find out the traffic situation before departure, so that you can avoid delays and detours that only cause stressful situations.
Relax when you're stuck in traffic
The best thing to do when you're stuck in a traffic jam with hundreds of other cars on the road is to accept the situation. Relax, turn on your music and take a few deep breaths. After all, there's nothing you can do that will change what happens. The only thing that stress and frustration will do is get you to your destination in a negative and nervous mood.
Let it go
Each country you visit has different etiquette when it comes to driving, so don't let it get to you. Instead, let go of all annoyances and realize that the code of conduct for the road in other countries may not be what you expect. Other countries may drive more aggressively and some rules may be ignored. Don't take it personally – just take a breath, remember you're on vacation and move on!
