Trolls is the latest animated film from Dreamworks, which also produced the hit Shrek. More animated films have hit the screen lately, and more are sure to follow. No punishment, because most of them are very nice. After Pet Secrets and Finding Dory, we were now allowed to get acquainted with the Trolls movie. The girls were really looking forward to it!

They were not disappointed. In no time they were giggling in their cinema seats. I caught myself laughing a lot too. Sometimes for jokes that they didn't see immediately. Besides the fact that there is plenty of jokes and screams, two other things immediately stand out:it rocks and the cheerful colors splash off the screen.
As a contrast to our cheerful friends is of course the gray Bergen city. Full of grumpy Bergens, a creature that actually resembles the troll as we know it. Think of the trolls at the Elves in Dream Flight or that of Tolkiens 'The Lord of the Rings'.
Yet it is the cheerful note, surrounded by all the colors of the rainbow, that forms the common thread in this musical animation film . Fortunately, given the young target group 😉 .
In the original Trolls movie, Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick star as Knoest (Branch in American) and Poppy. In the Netherlands, that honor goes to Waylon and Sharon Doorson. We had to wait a while for Waylon's singing skills.. Poppy sings several well-known songs.
Note to father in line behind me:that doesn't mean you have to sing them all too…
Poppy is the princess of the trolls. She is always cheerful, loves to tinker and loves to party. With as much glitter as possible. Freedom happiness! Every now and then it's cuddle time and a group hug is very natural. Except for Knoest. The colorless and ever-negative troll who is thoroughly prepared and wary of an attack by the Bergens.
The Bergens know no better than that they can only be happy by eating a troll. Suddenly the trolls are no longer available. The fate of Prince Gristle seems inevitable:never to be happy. The evil Chef's mission is to find trolls. And they succeed.
Poppy sets out on an adventure to rescue her friends from the Chef's clutches and avoid their fate of being eaten by the Bergens. Help, betrayal and friendship come her way from unexpected quarters. Will she be able to save her friends, and all the other trolls?
Of course, it is and remains an American animation film, that Trolls film, so there must be a moral in the story. Just as Knoest isn't your typical merry troll, Bridget isn't your typical Bergen. This naive and sweet kitchen maid is madly in love with the seemingly unreachable Prince Gristle. Will they, the Prince and the Bergens find out that very little things make you sing? Are those little things the trolls, or does the feeling come from within?
The girls' first reaction? Trolls was great fun! Can I see it again?
So it really is a feel-good movie. You go along with the cheerful characters, scenes and the music. The slightly tense moments are nicely interspersed with humor, which is also very funny for the little ones. The hip cloud ('tap it!') is downright hilarious, we think.
