The Marvel Universe LIVE show full of spectacle, action, superheroes and villains

The intro animation took us to the world of Marvel superheroes:America, the streets of New York City and the famous Statue of Liberty. The first thing I thought is, 'The USA could use some superheroes right now'...but then again, that's a whole different story 😉 . We are now at the Marvel Universe Live show!

Marvel Universe LIVE show in Ahoy

For Mamsatwork we visited the very first Marvel Universe Live Show in the Netherlands with our girls aged 7 and 5. We thought our 2 year old son was a bit too young. Ahoy was filled with expectant fans. The majority consisted of parents with boys aged 4 to 10 years. But older Marvel fans had also managed to get a seat in the stands. The passage to Ahoy and our seats went smoothly and without a hitch. To our delight, our maps had been upgraded to Diamant and we were seated right in front of the arena and set, which looked really cool by the way. The commercial stands at the entrance were not overwhelming (which I do like), but the prices were. On the other hand, you come for the show, the rest is secondary.

The story

Everything revolves around the most wanted object in the Marvel Universe:the Cosmic Cube, the source of ultimate power. The mighty Thor has smashed the Cosmic Cube to pieces to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. To defeat the villain Loki, Marvel superheroes such as Spider-Man, Thor, Captain America, Ironman, the Hulk and Wolverine must work together. The Cosmic Cube fragments are scattered all over the world and they try to get them in teams. But can they defeat the villains, who also work together for the same purpose? The Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, Madame Hydra, Red Skull, Andrich Killin, and Electra, their worst enemies, do not shy away from a fight to conquer world power.

The Marvel Universe LIVE! Show review

It is wise to explain the story to your children in advance, because the spoken texts during the show cannot be followed. By use of words and by speed. In general, the Dutch know the superheroes Spider-Man and the Hulk. The other heroes have not yet dawned on many Dutch people, and so has the background story. But 'in the end of the day' it's the villains and 'the good guys' who make the show. Add spectacular stunts, special effects, fireworks and martial arts and all the ingredients of a good show are 'in the pocket'.

Heaps of action

And it was. "Wow! He can fight well!' is the first reaction of a boy behind me when Black Widow showed her skills. "Mommy, did that hurt?" was my 7-year-old daughter's first concerned response . After I explained to the girls that it was "for the fake," they were reassured and enjoyed the series of brawls between heroes and villains. A car rolled over, motorbikes crisscrossed the arena, doing jumps and somersaults. The action figures flew through the air, fell from great heights or even caught fire. The decor was continuously changed with all kinds of ingenious materials and the rear wall served both as a raised decor and as a projection screen for images to support the story.

Conclusion

The Marvel Universe Live Show lasted 2 hours including a short intermission. That was certainly not too long because there was actually 'never a dull moment', but a lot of the same. There was a lot of activity in the arena and there was something to see everywhere. That was sometimes a bit confusing, but also very spectacular for the audience. Above all, a great example of timing by the actors, because their movements have to match the sounds on the tape exactly.

Overall, the girls were captivated from start to finish. Especially the long-awaited Hulk at the end made a big impression. I expected that our 5 year old would find it a bit scary, but nothing could be further from the truth. In terms of age, I personally find the show more suitable for slightly older children, given the storyline. Nevertheless, it was a spectacle to watch and we had a great time.

PS:Did you know that the native Tilburger Geoffrey Thompson plays the role of Spider-Man?
