Dormio Resort Maastricht, Burgundian and outdoor living in style

Where in the south of the Netherlands the flat landscapes make way for rolling hills, the newest holiday destination in the Netherlands is located:the luxurious Dormio Resort Maastricht. As a family, we were allowed to 'taste' it for a weekend for Mamsatwork. And it tasted like more…

Dormio Resort Maastricht, a unique holiday concept

At the moment only(!) one third of the holiday park has been completed. But the plans are promising! Dormio does not intend to build a standard holiday resort with all the same houses. No, the intention is to realize a sort of self-contained village. With a central shopping square with terraces, a cafe, food court, supermarket, a kids' corner and a panoramic restaurant. Of course, a sports and fitness club with swimming pool should not be missed and the park is located right next to a large golf complex with 27 holes. It is possible to spend the night in an apartment or in one of the luxurious holiday homes, which all have their own classic style. The detached houses, including farms, detached farms, stately notary houses and craft houses can accommodate 4 to 20 people.

Review:Weekend in Resort Maastricht

The moment we drive over the first hills of the Limburg landscape, we always get a holiday feeling. It almost feels like a piece of foreign land in the Netherlands, although we are so close to Belgium in the resort that you have to be careful that your mobile does not secretly shoot at a Belgian provider. We briefly drive through Maastricht, and then promptly drive alongside a residential area via a country road into the countryside. Although very close, the city disappears into the background to make way for trees, grass, tranquility ... and before you know it, you apparently drive into a cozy village:Resort Maastricht.

At the reception, currently located at the brasserie, we are welcomed and pointed to the available facilities. We eagerly took advantage of the option to order fresh and healthy breakfast products (note! buns are hard sandwiches, pistolets are soft 🙂). At Club Pellikaan, at the beginning of the country road, we were allowed to use sports and swimming facilities for free. A beautiful and modern complex, but we had other plans.

Luxury &comfort with hotel service

The Merchant's House for 6 persons at the Dukdalf nr.41 was our destination for this weekend. Wow, what a beautiful house! In terms of architecture, design and tasteful furnishings. Spacious, everything is brand new and everything has been thought of. Three spacious bedrooms and a bathroom that many are jealous of. Also in the kitchen by the way!

For the smallest a cot and chair, and a stair gate above. Very safe!
What I personally always enjoy is covered beds and plenty of beach towels.

French doors provide access to a spacious terrace. I found the paths formed by hedges that separate the gardens and give access to, in our case, a playground. That was also so new that the ground was still completely raked. Well, leave that to the kids, that has now been plowed 😉 . Of course you still miss the facilities a bit, but the fresh breakfast every morning, the luxury of the house (the beds are comfortable!) make up for a lot. The service is excellent and in case of calamities, in our case a smoke detector that had taken on a life of its own, people are immediately at the door and solved it.

Above all, we are very charmed by the architectural style of the park. The beautiful detached stately houses, the real village feeling with street names, house number, the pavement and layout. Cozy, friendly, cosy. Burgundian outdoor living in style.

Maastricht and surroundings

It is almost unimaginable that the city center of Maastricht is so close to the holiday park. We know from our own experience that you can reach the Vrijthof in 10 minutes by bike or by car. At least, by car, including 3 small kids and a buggy. The city center is the ideal base on Sundays. Check out, have a nice lunch, shop and go home satisfied.

That wouldn't have been possible if we hadn't walked the kids properly the day before. There is more than enough to see and experience in the area, also for children. The border triangle, for example, or the caves in Maastricht and Valkenburg, Playgrounds such as Fort Willem and museums such as the Natural History Museum Maastricht. Within an hour's drive, cities in Germany and Belgium or parks such as Toverland and GaiaZOO are also a nice option.

Given the age of our children, we chose the Fairytale Forest in Valkenburg. Perfect for the little ones. Playing around with the sun on the sphere. Satisfied we drove back to our village, Dukdalf nr.41.

Conclusion: Dormio Resort Maastricht, which opened in July 2016, offers the luxury and comfort it promises. A unique experience is created with the architectural style of the houses, the interior, the service and the overall appearance of the holiday park. The fact that the 'own' facilities are still under construction does not detract from this. In fact, we are looking forward with great interest to the official opening of the entire complex in July 2018 and will definitely visit Resort Maastricht again!

Tip:for only €15 extra, you don't have to check out before 11:00, but before 17:00. Good for a kind of Lazy Sunday feeling!
