Gosh, what wonderful moments we have had with the family over the past few months! First do all kinds of activities with the children on holiday, then a wonderful Hanover City trip with the children and finally a weekend of blissful relaxation at Badhotel Domburg! And again we were lucky with the weather, which was of course very convenient since you can (almost) count the grains of sand from your window when you stay in this beautiful hotel.
This time it was fortunately less far for us to drive, very nice because we have covered quite a few kilometers in recent months, I can say! Badhotel Domburg is located in Zeeland, on the Walcheren peninsula.
If you make the trip to Domburg and your navigation indicates that you are almost there… pay attention, because it is beautifully 'hidden' behind a number of tall trees and in front of the charming hotel there is also a large lawn which makes it a lot back from the road. So we drove past 😉 at first. No problem, by the way, because then you immediately have a piece of site-seeing Domburg.

When I arrived at the hotel, I was immediately charmed by the reception for four-legged friends. We didn't have our sweet Ca$h with us, because Frank always likes to go on holiday without having to take the dog into account 🙁 . I regretted it a bit afterwards because it is of course fantastic for your four-legged friend on the beach! Do you like to take your dog with you? Then this is the perfect hotel for you.
Of course, parts of the hotel are not accessible to dogs. Like the restaurant for example, but also not all rooms and floors. Even in the morning at breakfast, the dog is not allowed into the room, so you have nothing to do with dogs… no problem, you don't have to meet them. For example, dog lovers can enjoy a nice breakfast in the Grand Café with a four-legged friend under the table.
At check-in we were again surprised, this time with a free upgrade to a family room! Great, so the children sleep separately 😉 . Now I get along well with my children, that's not the problem, but just a nice private bedroom, separate from the kids, I can appreciate and enjoy that too! And enjoy, that is what this hotel lends itself perfectly to. The decoration is very atmospheric and the beach atmosphere is implemented everywhere!
Even the elevators are in style 😛 .
Since the beach, hotel and the center of Domburg are approximately 200 meters away from each other, you will be where you want to be in no time. Relaxing with your feet in the sand and the sound of the waves in the background is just as close at hand as a delicious cappuccino in the tourist town or a delicious glass of wine outside on the extensive terrace of the Badhotel Domburg.
Enough! The center is not that big, but it is brimming with energy.
We have discovered a very cozy coffee, milk, beer and tea place where you can enjoy a delicious cappuccino or tasty mint tea at your leisure. It's not big, and you tend to walk right past it. Especially with all those other terraces you pass that are completely full of tourists. But this tent exudes authenticity, and of course this sign caught my attention 😉 .
It looks like a small shop, but make no mistake! They also sell some crockery, of course coffee beans and some other nice little things and there is a cozy tea garden at the rear where you can sit outside.
The beautiful little houses give the center its own appearance. You can easily explore the center here on foot, but you will also see many people cycling. Not so good on your feet, or in the mood for some fun? Get in the Bohemian Tuk 😉 .
The wonderful weather of the past few weeks has ensured that we were able to enjoy the beach later in the season. In fact, the beach was still full of sunbathers, and the sea was still attracting bathers. On day one we still had our clothes on, but on day two the kids also had to go into the sea up to their crowns 😉 .
You will find beach bars directly over the dunes that offer plenty of fun from morning to evening. So you can enjoy a walk with your feet in the sand and through the water, or you can explore the Manteling, a unique forest that starts right at the dune edge.
Are you a museum lover? Even then you can indulge yourself here. Quite a few artists have been inspired by this environment and the Marie Tak van Poortvliet Museum regularly has exhibitions of famous artists. Did you know that Pieter Mondrian lived in Domburg? And if I'm not mistaken, he even painted the mill we used to visit since it was National Heritage Day 😉 .
There is no shortage of children (as well as dogs) here at the Badhotel. Despite the luxury you will find here, children are very welcome and the atmosphere can be called downright relaxed. Nice! So I don't have to worry about the kids playing some Pokémon in front of the hotel and I don't worry if they only go to the room to get something.
Even though we were 'only' here for a weekend, we made full use of all the facilities! In addition to swimming in the sea, the children also tried out the swimming pool in the hotel. To my complete satisfaction, by the way! And in the evening we parked the children in our hotel room in front of the TV with something delicious. This allowed us to enjoy the spa facilities of the hotel for 2 hours. Fantastic I must say! For the spa you have to make do with a photo of the hotel itself, I found it a bit difficult to go into the sauna without clothes, but with a camera 😉 .
Frank and I are real Burgundians. Frank has been spoon-fed and I have been infected by him. Enjoying good food and drinks, I can't start my day better and end it better! And if for breakfast you can already opt for a boiled egg with some bacon and some fresh smoked salmon with tomatoes, followed by some yogurt and fresh fruit and assisted by a cappuccino… well then I start my day right!
Of course the children go for the poffertjes, the cakes and the other delicacies and the small packaging with fruit sprinkles and chocolate sprinkles is number one. I always find it so funny to see that it is the little things that can cause such a big smile.
For a small bite you can go to the Grand Café, and for an extensive dinner you can of course reserve a table at Zee &Land. So we did. As soon as sole is on the menu, we don't have to think about it long 😉 . And if you see these pictures of plates, then I don't have to explain to you that we had a delicious meal!
The bath hotel is of course great, so close to the beach and in a nice, somewhat touristy town. Yet we always like to see what we can do in the area.
If you look at the Badhotel's website for tips about Domburg and the surrounding area, they have already set out exactly what you can do in the area. If you are there for a week or longer, you will certainly not be bored! Unfortunately we only had a weekend, and since we've talked about Neeltje Jans so often, the choice was quickly made for us. More on that next time!
Admittedly, it is not very cheap in the Badhotel, but you do get value for money. Would you like to stay somewhere where you also experience the extra luxury? Then we can certainly recommend the Badhotel Domburg!
