Baumzipfelweg Hinterglemm Austria, a very expensive treetop walk

Just as there are days when you are completely lyrical about your holiday, there are also days that are a bit disappointing. The Baumzipfelweg in Austria was such an experience that was a bit disappointing. A treetop walk of just under 45 minutes (could have been a bit faster), which was also reasonably priced, we thought.

Baumzipfelweg Austria

We set off in good spirits. We had such a fantastic walk to the Krimml waterfalls that we had good expectations for this day. This time it was a short car ride from Viehhofen. Within half an hour we are on location at Hinterglemm after we have also driven through the beautiful Saalbach.

We have heard of the Baumzipfelweg from 'hearsay'. It is not in the Salzburgerland Card guide with all kinds of fun outings that we have for this holiday, but because we have heard that it is very nice here, we will take a look. A treetop walk sounds great, doesn't it?

Parking at the Baumzipfelweg

The parking lot at Baumzipfelweg in Hinterglemm  is still a bit away from the 'place to be'. A 30 minute walk to be exact. It's bloody hot today. So after (free) parking we first go in the shade to apply some extensive sun protection. I was not so precise about this in the past, after writing my previous blog about this I have become a bit more consistent. I was shocked by the figures on melanoma cancer.

Anyway, this 30-minute walk is of course very doable. If it weren't for the fact that my legs are still completely in the acid. Man-o-man…. I really don't exercise enough, that has become clear to me. I will probably not be able to stand on my legs at all on day 2 after the Krimml Waterfalls because of the muscle pain, but you will read that again tomorrow!

We walk along beautiful streams and the kids are naturally attracted by the water again. When we finally arrive at the Baumzipfelweg we see that we could have gone with a train. For those of you who still want to experience this again… then you probably know that. You don't necessarily have to walk 😉 .

Treetops walk Hinterglemm

Arriving at the place where we want to start, the children get completely hyper. And I understand why. In addition to the treetop walk that we want to do on the Baumzipfelweg, you can also climb here! And there is also a fantastic part in this park where there are huge bouncy castles and trampolines. Well, I think that the swimming pool that is on the program this afternoon should be postponed for a day, because this makes our mourners happy.

First of all, let's inform you. Lotte -with mountain boots- just touches the 1.30 line, which means that she can at least climb along in the climbing forest. It turns out that it is mandatory that an adult comes along, so Frank sacrifices himself. I am wearing shorts that are too short. Have you ever worn such a climbing harness with shorts? Well I can tell you… that is not a recommendation!

Not every climbing forest needs an adult, because when we were in France last year, the kids went alone. Check this blog with the activities with children during that holiday.

The suspension bridge and the treetops

We decide to first do the treetop walk that we actually came for. During this walk we walk over the first large suspension bridge. A nice bridge with a nice view. That may be said. Not spectacular, but just fun.

From there you have a nice view over the bouncy castle valley before you really go into the treetops. At that moment it is 'so' also decided that the bouncy castles will be added to today's wish list. But first, further between the trees.

We climb up and are in no time with our noses between the treetops. Nice. Not spectacular, but fun. We continue the tour and during this short walk on the Baumzipfelweg between the treetops we get to play some games. The kids can play a memory game, play music with cow bells and also guess which footprints belong to which animal. Soon we are through the route and the treetops walk is at its end.

As mentioned, it took us about 45 minutes, but that is also because we 'stretched' it somewhat. I thought the € 9.00 we had to pay per person was quite a bit, especially because the view was not really spectacular. Maybe it's because the falls had made such a huge impression, it could be. This day certainly couldn't match that feeling.

The Hochseilpark and the Jump &Slidepark

We parked the Hochseilpark (climbing forest) until the next day. A unanimous decision because the trampolines secretly won over the climbing. In addition, you can spend about 3 hours in the climbing forest and since I was not able to climb with you today, that was quite a wait.

But from procrastination comes adjustment, so also in this case. Not because we no longer felt like it, but mainly because we were in for a rather unpleasant surprise when we inquired about the rates of the Jump &Slidepark.

For children from 8 years old, access to the Jump &Slidepark is € 12.00 for 2 hours and from 16 years € 16.00 per 2 hours. Not a problem in itself and no prices that scare us. What is highly irritating… children of 8 years old are not allowed to enter that part of the park alone and you have to pay for the adults too! This means that you pay € 32.00 EXTRA for 2 adults who do nothing more than be present and watch.

Battle hat?

The latter goes against all my principles. I'm not at all afraid to pay for something, but paying for something that doesn't 'use me' is what I find so irritating. That feels like a money grab.

Fortunately, the children understand our point of view on this. We decide to have a drink in the accommodation that belongs to this whole and that bill also makes us realize that we really don't want to be here at all. We pay almost € 19.00 for 4 cokes and 1 plate of fries.

Just petting the sheep and we go home a bit disappointed.

Final conclusion of the Baumzipfelweg day

All in all, we didn't have such a fantastic experience today. One advantage… suddenly we still had time for the swimming pool 😉 . On to Käpt'n Hook where we can stay and cool down for a few hours with our Salzburgerland Card. Relax and rest your legs before we go and see the Weisssee glacier tomorrow!

ps… what was nice is that Lotte was shocked when one of the cows that roam free in this area came up to her. She was just taking a picture - pretty close - when the cow turned and came towards her. She was suddenly so fast 😉 .

TIP:We are staying this holiday in Viehhofen, at Landal Greenparks
Rehrenberg. An excellent location with perfect apartments and, in our opinion, really centrally located for the many trips we want to make. We drove for a maximum of an hour to the furthest locations we've been to, so it's very doable!
