When we have finally booked the trip of our dreams, we have only one desire:to share it with everyone. We then hasten to post the usual photo of the departure on vacation:our boarding pass. But if we think of this innocuous gesture, well that is not the case. The latter contains much more confidential information than you might think.
Steve Hui, general manager of the IFlyFlat site, explained that the boarding pass contains a lot of information:our name, flight details, our reservation number… and a barcode. And in the hands of a malicious person, they can give access to other much more personal information. Thus, with only the name of the passenger and his reservation number, you can have access to many details:stopover, seat number, ticket references, loyalty card number, and ticket payment details with the bonus of the 4 last digits of the credit card. We let you imagine what it can give if someone falls on it... Not to mention the information contained in the barcode (which can be read by many computers!):identity of the traveler, flight number, reference reservation form, ticket number, loyalty card… Enough to modify or cancel a reservation, just that!
Well, it's true, you'd have to come across a really bad person for that to happen, but when in doubt we'll still stop posting our boarding pass (however enthusiastic we are about this trip !) on our social networks. An image of the destination accompanied by a short commentary, it does the job just as well after all!
