Whether you are visiting New York for the first time or for the tenth, there is probably a museum that you have never seen... and for good reason, it is located in an old subway station, Court Street! The New York Transit Museum or NYTM is a place dedicated to public transport in the New York metropolis and opened its doors on July 4, 1976. The idea:to celebrate the work of the workers who have made possible the public transport network and show its evolution over the decades, up to the current metro that we know. Nice, right?
Arranged on 2 levels, the museum presents more than 6,000 objects related to the subway, the bus, the tunnels and the bridges of the Big Apple, but also a large collection of old subway trains and buses (dating from 1904 to 1963) which can be visited (don't forget to take a look at the advertisements, which are also original!) and temporary exhibitions. On TripAdvisor, the Museum has a rating of 4.5 out of 5, based on 781 reviews and the opinions are rather enthusiastic:"very informative", "very interesting", "back in time", "history book life-size”… Visitors also indicate that it is a museum to visit with children. In short, if you are looking for an original place in New York, this is a good address!
