With the high heat we only dream of one thing for our summer holidays :go to the sea to cool off. The problem is that this type of destination , on the sea coasts, is in great demand during the summer season. As a result, prices soar and our desire for fine sand beaches too. Fortunately we can count on France which is full of lakes and ponds where it is good to go for a swim or simply to relax by the water.
The bodies of fresh water , in the middle of nature or in the city center, are counted in the thousands in France. Accessible by public transport or on foot, these natural and artificial sites are mostly suitable for swimming, water sports and other activities, such as hiking . Nestled in the heart of wild territories, some of these bodies of water offer lush vegetation and magnificent panoramas to contemplate . Another advantage and not the least, we often take advantage of these places without spending a fortune and without supporting a horde of tourists. Among the most beautiful lakes or bodies of water in France there is Lac Salagou , a classified and emblematic site of the Hérault, recognizable thanks to the red earth that borders it; the lake of Oô in Haute Garonne fed by a large waterfall 275 meters high which pours water from Lake Espingo, or the majestic Lake Sainte-Croix in the departments of Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence which seduces every year many travelers for its beauty.
