Most backpackers go to Asia. Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia are most often mentioned as favorite backpacking destinations. The low costs in Asia in particular are considered a major advantage. Australia is popular among working backpackers, Laos is the 'real' Asia and New Zealand is the perfect destination for nature lovers. Peru, Nepal and Spain complete the top ten.

According to backpackers, a camera, smartphone and tablet are absolutely indispensable. Practical matters, such as good shoes and a suitable backpack, are also strongly recommended. Just like a credit card, sheet bag, slippers, flashlight and a pocket knife. According to almost 20% of experienced backpackers, a mosquito net is unnecessary ballast.
