Early spring is just around the corner! This also marks the start of the Texel lamb season. About 22,000 lambs are expected to be born, more than doubling the population of the island in a short time. Until the summer, Texel is a true mecca for lambs. Curious what life looks like for sheep farmers with thousands of lambs on the way? We share a unique look behind the scenes with the docuseries:De Lammerij on Texel.
An island full of lambs remains a unique and cheerful sight. The first woolly critters can already be seen in various places and there are more by the day. There is therefore plenty to do on Texel during this period. From cuddling lambs, lamb cycling routes and walking tours, to sleeping among the woolly animals:there is something for everyone. Look here for more information about the activities.
De Lammerij on Texel 150 lambs have already been born at Lammerij de Waddel! To show what it really is like on a sheep farm during this busy period, we can take a look at the life of the Bakker family for two months. In the docuseries, eighth-generation sheep farmer Jan-Willem and his family share the ins and outs of a sheep farm in lambing time. “In addition to wanting as many people as possible to enjoy the newborn lambs, we also want to share more knowledge about our profession and the lambs themselves. This series is a fun way for us to do that,” says Jan-Willem. The first episode will be online this Sunday at 09:00 and watch it here.
Lamb Radar
Not a rainfall radar, but a real Lambs radar! Now that the first lambs are in the meadow, you are probably curious where you can spot them. As of today, the radar is live again and you can see the current locations. The website shows daily until the end of May where you can see the frolicking lambs grazing on the island. Nice during a walk or bike ride!
