Pfannkuchenhaus CentrO in Oberhausen

Looking for a place to have lunch or dinner in Oberhausen? We visited the Pfannkuchenhaus CentrO in Oberhausen. With a lot of choice of course from various pancakes, but also schnitzels are served. Read on and discover this very special restaurant.

Centro in Oberhausen

As you may have read, we went to Sealife in Oberhausen a few weeks ago. The day didn't go as I had hoped, as I had a migraine, so we spent more time in public transport than intended, but in the end we still enjoyed ourselves. Sealife was a lot of fun and is highly recommended.

CentrO has changed quite a bit since the last time we were there (about 14 years ago) and has now been expanded with a 'boulevard with a lot of restaurants, lunchrooms and cafes. There is also plenty to see and experience for the children with Sealife and Legoland. In addition, there is also a very large swimming paradise that looks quite nice on the internet.

There is also a very large shopping center. Here you will find a lot of shops, ranging from the well-known DM drugstore to Armani jeans. With more than 160 stores there is something for everyone and you can spend a whole day here shopping and window shopping. We went into the DM for a while, but were too late to really go shopping. Perhaps that will come next time.

Pfannkuchenhaus CentrO in Oberhausen

After our visit to Sealife we were hungry and went looking for a restaurant for dinner. I preferred a real restaurant, but the three teenagers opted for a pancake house. Fortunately, there was just a little more on the menu than pancakes, so I could enjoy a decent dinner 😉

The Pfannkuchenhaus can be found on the boulevard between all kinds of other restaurants, including a Greek and much more. You can sit both inside and outside, where you also have the choice of sitting downstairs or upstairs. From the top you have a nice view over the restaurant area below, the disadvantage is that it is fairly cramped upstairs and if the service has to pass it is a bit of adjustment (at least that applies to a number of tables).

The wide staircase that leads upstairs is made of wood and gives the whole a very nice look. The decor, however, was a completely different story. That was supposed to be a bit (very) reminiscent of the Netherlands. In itself that was quite successful, only certain posters on the wall, young children should not look at them too long otherwise they might ask questions (very explicit photos).

But the worst is the ladies' room. A word of warning:if you eat here with young girls, brace yourself that you can expect some embarrassing questions. My daughter came out of the toilet with big eyes and said she didn't know what she had seen. Well, you shouldn't say that to me because now my curiosity was aroused. Because what could be so strange about the toilet that she didn't know what it was like?

Well that soon became clear:as soon as I swung open the toilet door, I looked at a vending machine containing… vibrators! I have no idea what they're doing there, but I think it's shameless. What that has to do with the restaurant, I have no idea, but find it very inappropriate. Especially because a pancake house also attracts many families. So if you want to eat here with small children, keep that in mind.

Our experience

My daughter and her boyfriend chose a pancake with Nutella and rhubarb/strawberry compote respectively. My son, husband and myself opted for schnitzels. The choice of pancakes or rather the appendices for the pancakes is really huge. You can't think of it that crazy or you do have them. Not only plenty of choice for those with a sweet tooth, but also plenty to choose from if you like savory pancakes.

For the schnitzels, you can also choose from various side dishes, including fries and rosti. In addition, you can take schnitzel with all kinds of sauces and additions. With every dish, including the pancakes, you could also go to the salad bar to serve. Ideal, because I didn't see these three teenagers getting full on a pancake and schnitzel.

The service was quick, the food was tasty, not a masterpiece, but just good and also reasonable in terms of price. Thanks to the salad bar, the teenagers were at least satiated for a while and we were able to make a small tour of CentrO itself with numerous shops.
