Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst

Discovered a new hotspot:Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst. Are you looking for a nice hotspot where you can eat well? Then go to Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst. And if you have a little more time:Elst, between Arnhem and Nijmegen, is a very nice and cozy village where you can shop to your heart's content and enjoy nature.

Elst, a cozy village between Arnhem and Nijmegen

Many people do not know Elst and that is a shame. It is a very pleasant village where there is plenty to see and do, especially in the summer. For example, the first day of the Nijmegen Four Days Marches goes through the middle of the village. There are many shops where you can shop to your heart's content and plenty of restaurants. The village is quite popular in Gelderland and is now compared with Amsterdam in terms of the housing market.

In the spring and summer, activities are planned in the village almost every weekend. Think of a large market in Liège (freely accessible flea market with more than 250 stalls), there are village festivals and much more. So there is absolutely no question of a boring farming village.

In addition to the many shops, there is also a vast nature reserve around the village. Park Lingezegen extends as far as Arnhem and here are numerous hiking and cycling paths. For the youth there is a petting zoo and plenty of opportunities to skate.

But Elst has even more:the range of restaurants and cafes here is overwhelming. You really don't have to go to nearby Arnhem or Nijmegen to enjoy a night out. You can choose from Asian, Chinese, Italian, Greek, Dutch and French cuisine, but also various snack bars and cafes. So there is something for everyone and it doesn't have to be expensive. I wrote before about the cafeteria and lunchroom of Hulzen where we have eaten a number of times. Today I will discuss another hotspot in Elst:Greek restaurant Anemos.

Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst

On Saturday June 30, 2018 we were married for 21 years and we went out for dinner. The kids were busy themselves, so the two of us were able to get away. This time we chose Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst.

The restaurant looks quite small from the outside, but once inside there is room for at least 150 people. The interior is a mixture of various styles, with one side of the restaurant giving an almost luxurious American feel, while the other side exudes a more southern atmosphere. The restaurant has not been open for a year, but it is always busy, an indicator that the food must be good.

There is a lot of wait staff around, including the owner and a number of family members. The restaurant can be found in the middle of the village, just next to the Dorpsstraat, where there is also plenty of parking. If the Dorpsstraat is full, you can park at the back, where the Jumbo and Aldi can also be found.

When the weather is nice, you can also choose to sit outside, although this may be a little less pleasant with the heat of the past few days. The tables are arranged in such a way that there are seats for various groups. So it doesn't matter whether you come to dinner with two or a group of 20 people.

Our experience

As mentioned, we went to Greek restaurant Anemos in Elst on Saturday June 30, 2018 to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Experience shows that Greek food can be quite filling, so we only ate a main course.

Hubby for the Chef's surprise (vegetarian) and I for the Souvlaki platter. The chef's surprise consisted of all kinds of vegetables and rice dishes, including stuffed peppers, Greek rice and lots of vegetables. The souvlaki dish consisted of 2 souvlaki, gyros, rice, tzatziki and fries. In addition, we were both allowed to serve from the salad buffet.

The salad buffet is in the back on the side and consisted of 5 large tubs of different salads. The Greek coleslaw is of course indispensable, but there was also a choice of potato salad, salad with chickpeas, seasoned tomatoes, cucumber and pepperoni and two more salads. We bragged a lot to be able to taste everything.

Of course I also looked at the portions that the people around us received in order to have an objective picture. I have to say that it was not disappointing, the portions around us were quite large and also looked delicious.

Immediately after we were seated we were asked if we wanted to order drinks and after we had made our choice regarding the food, we were served our food within less than 10 minutes. The service is very friendly and attentive and even the owner walks past the tables to ask if everything is to your liking.

In the end we lost 38 euros for 2 drinks (Spa red) and 2 main courses. A very reasonable amount and since we were very satisfied we rounded it up to 45 euros. The portions were good, especially with the salad bar filling. We were very surprised and plan to eat here more often, but with our family.
