To Curaçao on holiday with your child; what should you pay attention to?

A holiday to Curaçao sounds fantastic of course, and it is. The weather on Curaçao is fantastic almost all year round. Curaçao has a tropical climate, which makes it a pleasant temperature all year round. Only in the fall you may have a little more chance of rain. The time we went to Curaçao with my in-laws with one child (Lotte was not yet born at that time) I believe it was at the end of September and we didn't see a drop of rain.

To Curaçao with your child is perfectly doable!

At the time I thought it was quite an undertaking, to Curaçao with our child. But when I look back on it now, in hindsight, it's not that bad. It is actually only the flight that may bother you because flying with young children is not always easy.

Flying with your child to Curaçao

The flight to Curaçao will of course take a while. If you have a direct flight, you will be on the plane for about 10 hours. But it is best to prepare yourself for such a long flight with your child. And if you fly at night, that also makes a difference because they sleep relatively easier. Of course it also depends on the age of your child. Luc was almost three years old when we flew to Curaçao. That's the age when they want all kinds of things, but sometimes don't quite want to get through the explanation of certain things, haha. We also had some things with us to entertain him, but that was also thought of in the plane.

I also think that you should not stress too much. Do they want to stretch their legs? Then you let them walk up and down the plane every now and then, right? Trying to keep them in the chair only backfires. And don't forget that most people also understand if you're on your way to Curaçao and you're trying to keep your child entertained.

Curaçao itself is super child-friendly

And once you are in Curaçao you will see that this island is very child-friendly. There is plenty for children to do. Think, for example, of zoos, playgrounds and of course playing on the beach with a shovel and a bucket. If there are sand and shells around and the weather in Curaçao is as they promise, then it's good right? Whether you opt for a sun holiday in March or go in the autumn holidays, it is always nice here. We also stayed in an all inclusive resort, which made it really easy for us to arrange everything. My in-laws and we both had our own apartment in the Breezes resort (nowadays Sunscape I think).

I thought it was wonderful that we had our own place to retreat to, but with a child on Curaçao that also needs naps in between, that's really nice. Luc was able to sleep undisturbed at noon, and then continue in the evening 😉 .

Whether you have young or older children, the Sunscape Curaçao Resort has what you are looking for. There is a nice private beach with a beautiful bay where it is wonderful to splash, swim and snorkel. Because this private beach is located in a bay, it is also very clear. You can keep a close eye on your children by the water. There are of course also a number of swimming pools (3 pieces!) and a children's pool.

Add to that the kids' club, the club for teenagers, the chess and the playground and you have more than enough play areas for the children. Of course there is also animation. We have not used this at all. Luc just loved being on the beach and in the water. We also made regular trips to see Willemstad and much more. You can read more about that below, but first this.

All inclusive to Curaçao with your child, or not?

Personally, I think all inclusive is an ideal way of going on holiday with children, also in Curaçao. I should also mention that the Sunscape Resort cannot be compared with a standard all inclusive. It is not the case here that you can only sit down at the buffet. Of the five restaurants that they have within this resort, there are 4 à la carte restaurants. You don't see that a lot in all inclusive resorts.

For example, you can enjoy delicious Japanese food from the griddle here, but also delicious Italian food. And all this without having to pay extra! Furthermore, you can of course get tasty snacks during the day in the various bars and drink whatever you want. Is it very hot? Then you can hang out at the bar in the pool 😉 . Such a luxury.

The next time we go to Curaçao, we will definitely go back to this resort! Lotte has never been to Curaçao and of course that child also wants (after all our stories about this) very much!

You can do all this with your children on Curaçao

Why we went to Curaçao with child and parents-in-law? For starters, you only go to this island if you like this climate and are looking for white beaches and a clear blue sea. And if you want to see dolphins, also in the wild. We had a kind of ideal picture in mind when it comes to Curaçao. Relax on a bounty island so to speak. And I have to tell you, that's all true. I can therefore only think of two disadvantages about a holiday to Curaçao. It is a relatively expensive holiday and it is a long flight. But further? I say:DO IT!

If you want to know what is the best time for you to visit Curaçao (with or without a child), check the website Bestereistijd.nl when it comes to the weather. And now for the fun activities:

37 beaches to visit

From wider beaches to small coves. If you and your child are beach lovers, then you are in Curacao. There are plenty of free beaches, but also beaches that you have to pay to access. We only visited some free beaches, in addition to the private beach we had at our resort. At every beach you can enjoy snorkeling or diving and there is even a chance that you will see dolphins in the wild. We once had a view (just behind our bay) of about 100 dolphins that swam by. I don't think I've ever been so excited!

Go on a jeep safari!

Have you seen enough beaches? Then a jeep safari is a good idea. You can go with a driver, but you can also rent a jeep yourself. An action-packed safari where you can visit some caves in between, or visit a beach or a nature reserve (again).

Visit Willemstad with all the trimmings!

Willemstad is beautiful. The colored facades of the houses alone are a feast. But the Pontoon Bridge is also beautiful and watching the cruise ships is also fantastic! Here you can stroll through the local markets, have a drink in one of the many restaurants and soak up the real Curaçao atmosphere.

Visit a zoo, aquarium or dolphin show

Opinions are of course divided on this. Some think it's fantastic to go to a beautiful dolphin show, others don't like it at all. The fact remains that your child will absolutely love this and that there is the opportunity to do this in Curaçao. In addition, there is a lot to learn in the aquarium and a visit to the zoo is always a success.

Visit caves and stroll through nature reserves

We like a good mix of relaxation, culture, villages and nature. For all these matters you can go to Curaçao, also with your child. You don't have to be bored for a moment and your child will also have a great time.

Alm et al you have a fantastic holiday here, which you cannot miss. But you have to pay some money for it. The journey is not very cheap and the accommodation also costs a lot. We spent 10 days on Curaçao. As far as I'm concerned this is the minimum. Not only to be able to discover Curaçao well and to show your child everything, but also to maintain that holiday feeling. After all, the flight consumes quite a bit of your time. If you prefer to stay closer to home but still want to have nice weather, a holiday to Tenerife might also be a good idea.
