Do your kids love a day at the zoo? Or are you just really crazy about it yourself? Young and old can enjoy a day among the animals, but nowadays you can even visit the zoo in the evenings. Scared in the dark? “Then we'll turn on a little light,” they thought in the Beekse Bergen. And Africa by Light was born! Last year they had the quiet hope that they could make this a recurring event, this year they are only too happy to surpass last year. I was allowed to take a look at the Beekse Bergen in the dark with my family and I can tell you… this can rightly be called a dot-tip! We were pleasantly surprised, read on!

Africa By Light is a collaboration between safari park de Beekse Bergen and China Light. Do you like a good light show, wild animals, and a nice winter scene? Then this is your outing. Of course you don't view these spectacular illuminated animals from your lazy chair! Africa By Light is a 2.5 kilometer walking route through the safari park. On the standard walking path of the park, only now fully 'surrounded' by the luminous animals and plants. But that's not all…
Wild animals, they remain exciting. Fortunately, you don't have to be afraid of sharp claws and long teeth at Africa By Light. The animals are beautiful luminous statues. The rhinoceroses and elephants can still wish you goodnight. Nice too, because I had seen mom and baby elephant come in with the elephant transport a while ago!

The rest of the animals in the park have already gone to dreamland in their night pens. Although we did catch a glimpse of one of the hyenas who apparently hadn't slept yet 😉 .
The inner person is also taken care of, because in between you will come across many stalls where you can score Glühwein and stew. Unless you prefer an African Christmas meal of course, the restaurants are also open! Afterwards, nothing is more fun than roasting a few tasty marshmallows in a large fire bowl or grabbing a delicious waffle for dessert.
Or follow the performance of Djambo - the mascot of the Beekse Bergen - with a hot chocolate (and ditto cappuccino for mom and dad). Do you know what elephants are afraid of?
Besides that you can be surprised by all the luminous objects, there is also a fantastic laser show at the beginning of the park. Supported by cool music, the laser beams fly through the air and fictional clouds are formed. I have never seen such a spectacular laser show myself and the children were also quite impressed! Are you a photographer? Then I think this light spectacle is a must-see. We only shoot for fun, but were already completely in ecstasy and I could hardly make a choice from all the photos we took. As a pro you can indulge yourself!
A winter party is not a winter party without a princess in blue of course. Beautifully painted and almost covered with blue blood, she sits on her throne ready to receive every little prince and princess on her lap 😉 .
In addition to the seat of Princess Fantasia, a small covered skating rink has also been set up. This skating rink was the only thing that was a bit disappointing for our kids. No ice, but a track of plates on which the skates moved in all directions, there was no real sliding. But that didn't spoil the fun, we didn't come for skating 😉 .
Are you interested in a day at the zoo? Or rather, an evening? Then get your tickets online. Africa By Light can be visited from December 9 to January 22. The light route opens at 5:00 pm, so you can combine it nicely with your day at the zoo. But Africa by Light is also definitely worth a visit without doing a day at the zoo beforehand. We had a great time for over 3.5 hours, only in the evening!
The park closes at 9:00 PM. Dress well, because an evening walk is colder than you think 😉 .
