Prosecco and camping! For me it was the ideal combination. I was not a camping fanatic, let alone camping in a tent. But because of this campsite in the middle of the prosecco region, I'm done. Would you like to go to a campsite where you feel completely at home? Then I have the ideal camping spot for you, Camping al Lago!
Beneath the Dolomites, in the Italian province of Treviso, lies a paradise. The prosecco paradise! And in this paradise is hidden a gem. A pearl of a campsite. Small, nice and the ideal base to see a lot of the beautiful surroundings.

Even though it is a small gem, Camping al Lago is located in the small town of Tarzo. This campsite has something for everyone. Don't expect a large swimming paradise, animation team, five restaurants and two camping shops here. It is all very basic, but everything is there. There is a swimming pool and a local lake. Sunbeds, pillows and umbrellas are available free of charge. No maze of slides. No, in the lake there is a jetty with a diving board on it. No more is needed! It is a lovely place, equipped with a bar and a terrace for some small refreshments. There is no camping shop. However, sandwiches and bottles of prosecco are available.
As far as we are concerned, the campsite must meet a few requirements. The sanitary facilities must be clean and the camping site large enough. In addition, we like it if you can swim at the campsite, there is a restaurant within walking distance, and above all a beautiful environment. And that's all here!
Our children have very different wishes. My son is ten and wants to be able to play and swim. Our 12-year-old daughter wants peers around her and good WiFi! They are not interested in the environment.
Camping al Lago has one big hotspot. The trampolines! Here, friendships are made and evening games are devised by the children themselves. There are ten trampolines which are located next to the WiFi zone. Near the wifi zone is a bar with ice creams, a beer and of course delicious prosecco! There are cozy tables where you can play games, chat or update your social media. This is where everyone comes together! All ages, from young to old! The younger children come up with evening games, the older kids chat, chill and play table tennis. They are all sweet all night long! The fantastic owners and their team are always visibly present. Danilla is the hub. Helpful and welcoming. She ensures that everyone adheres to the rules and respects each other. That makes it a great place for everyone to stay. Her husband Giorgio creates the atmosphere, always smiling from ear to ear.
But what about the surroundings of Camping al Lago? Do you like beautiful nature, nice cities, good food and good prosecco? Then this campsite is perfect for you! This is an ideal base for various day trips that are great fun for the prosecco lover, but also for the rest of the family! I would like to list some of the many beautiful sights for you.
The day trip from Camping al Lago is, in my opinion, the “La Strada del Prosecco”. This is a beautiful route between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiabene, right through the prosecco landscape. This is also a fantastic trip for the non prosecco lover. During this route of less than 50 kilometers you will drive past breathtaking views and beautiful sights.
For example, we stopped in the village “Refrontolo”. This is where the “Molinetto della Croda” is located. A historic watermill next to a waterfall of twelve meters high.
This trip costs nothing. Except for the costs you incur if you stop again at one of the many cantinas along the Strada. Here you are always welcome to taste prosecco and often local dishes. (And to buy but this is not an obligation.) The route of La Strada del Prosecco is indicated by signs along the road. You can also consult Google or get a free route map at the local tourist information offices.
This outing is also ideal on a less beautiful day. And when it rains, you can combine it with a visit to Conegliano, the starting point of this route. There is a large shopping center here (about a 20-minute drive from Camping al Lago) where you can shop for a few hours! Then suddenly rain isn't so bad anymore! 😉 And does it clear up? Then visit the castle of this town and start the route. Is the weather very nice? Then definitely consider riding “La Strada del Prosecco” on a real Italian Vespa scooter.
Treviso is not only the name of the province. It is also a city and well worth a visit. The town is approximately a 45-minute drive from the campsite. It is a very beautiful city with nice streets, beautiful buildings and delicious ice cream parlors. Bit chic though.
In Treviso is also the “fontana del tetta”. Literally translated:“tit fountain”. Hilarious. We had to find them. This old fountain is, as the name suggests, a topless woman. Water flows from her nipples. It seems that during special celebrations in the city, wine flows from her breasts rather than water. We were not so lucky!
Vittoria Veneto is close to Tarzo and camping al Lago. A fifteen minute drive and you are in the old center. There are also a number of large supermarkets where you can stock up on your camping groceries. There are plenty of catering establishments such as the "Commerce" where you can drink a delicious cup of Italian espresso. A visit to the weekly market on Monday is also definitely worth it.
Venice, the city of water. If you camp so close (about an hour's drive from camping al Lago), you really have to go here. The center is not accessible by car but easily accessible by train. It takes you right to the center. Because our son loves boats, we opted for a crossing by boat.
We drove to Fusina by car. Here you board a boat that sails every half hour. The costs for parking are € 10.00 for a whole day. The return ticket for the boat was € 48.00 for four people. We thought this was “a great buy”! Of course you can go gondolas here, but we enjoyed the passing gondolas from the bridge. Complete with singing gondolier! It is in fact “awkward” to go into that, according to our teenager.
So we walked everything from the impressive San Marco square to the harbor.
Because of the heat it was quite tough for the children. But with a Magnum ice cream concocted by themselves, they held out well! We thought Venice was beautiful. We are even thinking about going back for a city trip so that we can also visit the small islands of Burano and Murano.
A visit to the caves of Caglieron in Fregona is also well worth it. The tour is also suitable for children. It is a beautiful, not too strenuous hike through and past the caves. We parked the car near the entrance, where the “Grotta della Madonna” is also located. This is a small chapel in a cave. The only costs you incur for this trip are parking costs. Take a drink with you because you will only come across a restaurant at the end of the route.
Do this day trip! The drive to it from Camping al Lago is already beautiful, but once you have arrived in the nature reserve in Sospirolo (Belluno), you can really enjoy it. Lago del Mis is a beautiful blue and cold lake, located between the mountains. Even if it's cold, it's nice to cool off in. This is also an ideal place for a picnic if you ask me! Here you are among the locals, who know what a picnic is. Of course with prosecco!
If you drive a little past the lake, you will find “Val del Mis”. The falls. After a short walk you reach the waterfalls. This walk is also very suitable for children. Our children really enjoyed the visit to Val del Mis, although they wanted to go back to the campsite. The evening game still had to be prepared! As a result, we did not stop in the nearby town of Belluno, which is certainly worth a visit.
Now that we are making plans for our next camping holiday, I think back with nostalgia to this gem in paradise. I see myself again at camping al Lago. In front of the tent. With a book and a fine glass of prosecco. Enjoying the enthusiastic playing kids and their camping friends, my handsome cooking husband and the beautiful view. Worth repeating!
