At the beginning of the holiday we went to Lago Maggiore camping Eden. A wonderful week in Italy with the four of you to relax and soak up culture and nature at the beautiful Lake Maggiore. At the invitation of Vacanceselect we stayed in one of the safari tents and I am happy to tell you more about it.

We have been to Italy a number of times before, but this time it will be our first time exploring Lago Maggiore and the surrounding area. The lake is located on the border of Switzerland and Italy and is therefore located at the top of Italy. Our pitch is camping Eden in Dormelletto, located in the southern part of the Lake Maggiore area. About 1000 km drive from Eindhoven.
Fortunately we don't have a lot of traffic jams, but 1000 km is still a nice drive with children of course. We play some games for the road and we mostly sleep a lot. At the end of the day we arrive at the small Eden campsite. We are kindly greeted by a lady at the reception and after checking in we are taken to our safari tent and the great enjoyment can begin.
You can already see in the photo that this safari tent from Vacanceselect looks good. A lovely large terrace and more than enough space in front of the tent to relax 😉 . You don't need much more for a 9-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy!
Even before we go we know that the campsite is not too big, a conscious choice. We have already visited the necessary larger campsites in the past and want to try something different this time. A small campsite with good reviews, that should work out, right?
Lago Maggiore camping Eden has 'basically' everything you need to entertain your children, although I think it is aimed more at families with smaller children than at families with children aged 9-16 years.
There is a swimming pool which is big enough for small children to have fun in. Our kids soak in it for a while, but are ready pretty quickly after that. During the week it is a bit quieter in the pool than at the weekend. Lotte sees her chance when she has the pool all to herself.
In high season there is entertainment for the children, mainly aimed at smaller children with, for example, the mini disco. Our kids feel just a bit too big for this, so we skipped this one. Despite the fact that the animation team does their best and makes it a small party. The sounds that are produced during the mini disco are therefore pleasant. In addition, every now and then something is organized for the adults. Something with the pool and drinking beer 😉 .
In terms of playground and playing fields, there is a lot set up for the children at the beginning of the campsite. Play equipment, a table tennis table, a football field and also a volleyball court are available. Plenty of room for entertainment, which is also used a lot. Since it is a relatively small campsite, the beginning of the campsite is easy to reach for everyone. You can't let very small children go alone, but once they are a bit older that is a piece of cake.
The volleyball court can be found close to the lake, and therefore also close to our tent. Of course we played the necessary games of volleyball there. The boys against the girls, for example.
Make sure you have something against the mosquitoes with you. Because you are near a lake, an evening playing outside or sinking in without a mosquito spray is not really recommended.
The campsite is located on the beautiful Lake Maggiore. The connection of the campsite to this lake is not really wide, but you can lie down there as long as it is not too busy. Now you will not easily suffer from this, at most during the weekend, because of the number of regular guests at this campsite who are not always there during the week. So in principle there is enough room for us at the lake together with the swans who also occupy part of the 'quay'.
Our children can't resist the attractive floating trampoline in the lake and had a wonderful swim in the lake, with the swans as the audience. Going in and out of the lake is a little less fresh, the 'beach' is not really clean. That's a bit of a shame.
Around the pool you will find lovely lounge beds, lounge chairs and there is also a restaurant where you can eat and drink affordably. Every morning fresh bread rolls are available in the restaurant for breakfast at your tent. Delicious!
Please note that there is no camping shop available. It is also not necessary for anything because 200 meters from the campsite is a mega supermarket where you can get everything.
There is also a restaurant around the corner from the campsite where you can eat delicious pizza. And a lot .
The Vacanceselect safari tent that we stayed in at Lago Maggiore camping Eden is located in a row of safari tents on the outer edge of the campsite, closest to Lake Maggiore. Most of the tents are occupied by Dutch families with small children. We had a great time here with a chat every now and then.
During the weekend you should keep in mind that there are Italian 'regulars' at the campsite. A considerable part of the campsite consists of permanent pitches that belong to Italians. Very nice to see, all those small cozy pitches with their own gardens full of flowers and herbs. You imagine yourself completely in Italian atmosphere.
The Italians are quite active in the morning and evening and have a serious siesta in the afternoon. So nice and quiet in the afternoon. Don't forget that the campsite will also be closed to car traffic at that time. Do you want to go out between 13.00-15.00? Then make sure you put your car in the parking lot before 1 p.m., so that you can just leave. Because during the siesta, the barriers go down and you can't leave. We speak from experience 😉 .
As a water sports enthusiast and boat owner, this campsite is perfect for you. The nice owner of this campsite is happy to drive your boat to the waterfront with his tractor so that you can sail here at full speed.
Dog lovers are also in the right place at camping Eden. They are fully present and as soon as you leave your tent or caravan there is an opportunity to walk your dog. If I had known that, our Ca$h could also have gone along nicely. It is a bit of a shame that the owners of those sweet critters do not check the place where their dog has been. For example, we found various dog turds at the lake, on the small piece of 'beach'.
Totally complete. And clean. I can't say anything else about that. The safari tents are fully equipped with everything you need to experience a wonderful holiday at this Lago Maggiore campsite.
Inside the tent there are two benches near the table and in the kitchenette you will find all the kitchen utensils you need. The shower gives a wonderfully wide and warm jet (I always like it so much) and the beds sleep more than excellent.
The location of the safari tents is also fantastic. A little sun, but also in the shade at the warmer times. Even in the morning it's fine to have in the tent and it doesn't feel like you're burning out the tent. A big plus as far as we're concerned.
With our stay bed linen and towels are included, so we really only have some clothes, books and games with us. I like going on vacation now. You are so packed to leave and you don't have to clean up a lot at home.
What is there to do in the vicinity of this Lago Maggiore campsite? I will be happy to tell you more about this in a future blog, but I can already tell you that there is more to experience and see around Lake Maggiore.
Do you like nature? Then you are in the right place. Do you like walking? Then you are also in the right place. Do you like towns and shopping and water? Then you're in the right place here too!
We have been out and about almost every day and have enjoyed the glacier walk at the Val Grande, the visit to the Borromean Islands (Isola Bella and Isola Madre) and the many towns near this Lago Maggiore campsite. In addition, Milan is also within driving distance, so you can easily take a visit to this city.
