More than half (53%) of Dutch parents are most concerned that their children will cry during the flight, according to new research from British Airways. In addition, parents are also concerned that their children will not stay in their seats and harass other passengers (11%). Other minor concerns are, for example, pain in the ears due to pressure difference in the cabin. Also, to a lesser degree, parents are concerned that their children will make a mess in and around their seats. More than two-thirds (67%) of parents find flying with children a challenge – but it still doesn't stop Dutch families from flying:almost 40% of parents surveyed who have flown with children before, prefer flying over other means of transport. They also recommend other parents to fly with children. The children themselves also indicate that they prefer to fly by plane, rather than, for example, the train or the car.
Children usually cry during the flight because they cannot fall asleep, say 43% of parents. We are also ashamed of our children:43% of parents indicate that they are sometimes very ashamed of the behavior of their children during the flight. But what about other children who disturb the peace? Remarkably, 80% of the parents surveyed are annoyed by restless children of others when they fly.
Helpful cabin attendants often take the stress out of flying with children:76% of respondents say that the dedication and attentiveness of the staff certainly helps when flying with children. It reassures them and that makes the journey a lot more comfortable.
