Last weekend it was still freezing cold in the Netherlands and yet summer time will start again this Sunday! Like us, don't you want to wait until the sun warms up in the Netherlands and we can enjoy a little spring? We asked Skyscanner where the sun does shine. So put your nicest spring clothes in your suitcase and leave for a few days to a sunnier place.
Sardinia
On this Italian island you can fully enjoy the sun in the spring. There are many places to go for quiet beaches and the sea is so blue that you imagine yourself on a tropical island. Do you like snorkeling? Then don't miss the bay of Capo Caccia and Punta Giglio!
Fuerteventura Tenerife and Gran Canaria often feature on many sunny lists, but the Canary Island of Fuerteventura is also worth mentioning. Especially if you are ready for a quiet beach holiday because the sandy beaches are beautiful. Fuerteventura is also a paradise for surfers. The average temperature in April is already a wonderful 22 degrees. If you are more active, La Palma is a good alternative. Due to the more northerly location, there is a slightly more chance of rain, but with an average temperature of 17 degrees you can take beautiful walks through nature.
Cyprus
With temperatures often already above 20 degrees, it is enjoyable in Cyprus in April. Do you want to enjoy sun and tranquility? Then head to the beaches near Ayia Napa. But also if you want more than just hanging out on the beach, you can go to Cyprus. The island is heavily influenced by Greek and Turkish cultures, but certainly has a personality of its own. If you go more inland you will discover beautiful mountains overgrown with pine trees, ideal for cycling. But the best place to find the mix of history is in the kitchen. With Greek, Arabic and Turkish influences, there is always something delicious for everyone. Make the most of the mezze (small dishes from the Mediterranean cuisine) so that you can taste everything!
Italy
Not only in need of sun but also ready for a new spring look? Then travel to the Italian capital of style. High fashion addicts head to Quadrilatero d'Oro (golden rectangle), surrounded by Via della Spiga in the north and Via Montenapoleone in the south. For a more alternative vibe, Zona Tortona, a former industrial district southwest of downtown. April is an ideal time to grace Milan with a visit, with spring officially on its way, the city is gearing up for 'al fresco' outdoor living, eating and drinking. Is your wallet a little less full? Then travel to Naples. Cheaper in terms of food and fashion and you can taste the authentic Italian atmosphere! And…..just a little warmer!
Do you have some more time? Then these sunny spots are a must:
Isla Providencia, Colombia
The temperatures are around 20°C year round on this remote island, but a visit is best in April before the rainy season kicks in in May. The moment you step off the small, twin-engine plane near San Andrés (a two-hour flight from the capital Bogota), you enter zen mode. Swim in the 'Sea of Seven Colours' with its seductive shades of turquoise, green and royal blue at deserted island beaches such as Bahia Sur Oeste.
Koh Samui, Thailand
30°C in April, who wouldn't want that? Enjoy extensive beaches surrounded by swaying palm trees on Koh Samui. Whatever your budget, Koh Samui has something for everyone in terms of accommodation. Do you want something more than just rest? Then walk past the numerous fragrant street food stalls, family-run restaurants and Buddhist temples to take you in the color locale of the place especially to the south and west. Join the locals in their daily meditation ritual at the Big Buddha Temple (3 kilometers north of Samui Airport) before strolling back for a sunset drink at Big Buddha Beach.
