People who want to go on holiday in the sun in France will never go to the cities in the north of the country. But not all cities in the South are equal when it comes to their sunshine. So before going to the Basque Country hoping to tan all August, Futura Science has compiled a ranking of the 20 sunniest French cities. Spoiler:Biarritz is in last place and there is indeed no city in the North.
Not surprisingly, we find in the top 3 of the sunniest cities, three municipalities in the South-East of France:Marseille, Toulon and Ajaccio. With 2,858 hours and 170 sunny days (about 5.6 months), Marseille is the sunniest French city and therefore perfect for perfecting your summer tan. Behind her are Toulon with 5.5 months of sunshine and Ajaccio with 5.2 months of sunshine. At the top of the ranking, we still find many cities in the South, such as Toulouse (13th) and these 2.8 months of sunshine, Nice (4th) with 4.9 months of good weather or Perpignan (7th) with 4 months of Sun. At the end of the ranking we find 3 cities in the center:Clermont-Ferrand (17th) with 2.4 sunny months, Limoges (18th) 2.4 months of sunshine and Poitiers (19th) with 2.3 months of sunshine. And surprisingly, Biarritz finds itself in last place, with only 2.3 months of sunshine over the year (we surely owe this result to the rainy weather in the Basque Country due to the presence of the ocean and the mountains).
