Read our day out tip Avonturia Den Haag and discover whether it is worth going there. We have been there and are happy to tell you everything about Avonturia The Hague.
Personally, I still know Avonturia as the Vogelkelder, a small but very pleasantly decorated pet shop from The Hague. The small shop was located in a side street of Fahrenheitstraat and stood out because of a beautifully landscaped pond in the middle of the shop, including a bridge. Then they sold various small rodents, birds and grooming products. My girlfriend and I loved coming to the store during our high school breaks and we always enjoyed the atmosphere and the look.
Years later, the Vogelkelder moved to a former factory hall and has grown into what it is today:a pet store with numerous activities for young and old. It also seems to be the largest pet store in the Benelux. I like to believe this, since you can stay here for a while.
The first thing that strikes you when you enter is the atmosphere:the eye also wants something and they have understood that very well here. Children in particular will love it. The range is well sorted and divided into different 'worlds'. This makes finding accessories, food and all kinds of supplies for your dog, cat, bird, reptile, fish or rodent particularly easy.
We have been here with our teenagers and they were not bored for a minute. In the parrots department there was a cockatoo that did not want to leave my daughter and if it had been up to me he would have been allowed to go home (luckily I have a sensible man, otherwise we would be living in a zoo).
In between, we had a small snack in the restaurant on the first floor (also very attractively and cosily furnished, with very nice and attentive employees) and that was also fine. The choice is reasonable and the prices affordable.
It is not just a pet store there is much more, especially for children. How about a cozy pond where parrots and flamingos can be admired (and no, not in a cage, but just roaming free). The reptiles are placed in a special cavern (of course in bins).
There is also a special scavenger hunt that leads you past all kinds of unusual animals. As if that were not enough, the Expedition Bombay has now also been opened. Children who want to celebrate their children's party here can choose from numerous activities, such as making candles from beeswax, lava bulb tour or an adventurous photo shoot.
In addition, you will also find a veterinary clinic and a dog wash salon. Enough reasons to visit Avonturia.
Recommended: absolute! Whether you have animals or not, Avonturia is, as the name implies, a real adventure. Not only for young children, but also older children and even adults can enjoy themselves here and relax between all the animals. Moreover, admission to most things is free, while it is almost a mini zoo.
Negative: if you like animals you probably have a new addiction and you should keep a close eye on your wallet 😉
Value for money: the entrance is free so perfect. You do have to pay for certain activities, but the price is not that bad and fun is guaranteed.
Worth repeating:absolutely. If I were to ask my kids to go there again today, I'm sure they'll jump in the car (and yes, they are teenagers!).
