Top 8 most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava

On the Costa Brava in Spain you will find beautiful beaches where you can enjoy a wonderful beach holiday as a family. Not only the touristic, long sandy beach of Platja d'Aro, but also the smaller beaches such as Sa Cova, Tamariu and Cala de la Fosca are the places where you can enjoy the sea as a family with (small) children in the summer. I have all visited the 8 most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava below and have been approved by the children. Are you still going to the Costa Brava? Then take my top 8 with you!

Costa Brava:200km of sandy beaches in a Mediterranean-climate

A beach holiday on the Costa Brava was not my preference when we were looking for a holiday destination this summer. Relaxing on a towel on the beach, okay… But that 1400 km long car ride to Spain with three children in the back seat seemed like hell to me. Even if I were to play all these games on the road.

However, the last-minute offer to the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava was convincing enough to pack the car, put three children in the backseat and leave on Friday afternoon, straight out of school, for the northeastern part of the Spanish coast. After an overnight stay in Dijon, we arrived in Cristina d'Aro (near Platja d'Aro), where we had rented a three-bedroom mobile home. It turned out to be a fantastic beach holiday on the Costa Brava, where we visited a different beach every day. We got to know the Spanish culture, ate delicious tapas and enjoyed a day in Barcelona with the kids. Hola Costa Brava!

Another recommendation:you can also enjoy snorkeling on the Costa Brava. So don't forget the snorkel mask, so you can explore the underwater world too!

Top 8 most beautiful beaches of Costa Brava

We stayed 5 km from Platja d'Aro:the second largest seaside resort on the Costa Brava. All 8 most beautiful beaches on the Costa Brava can be reached within half an hour by car. If you go to Tossa de Mar from the north, there is also a beautiful coastal route that you can take. You do have to allow extra travel time for this, but the views over the Spanish cliffs are phenomenal!

Sa Cova, most beautiful beaches Costa Brava

In Platja d'Aro you not only have a long sandy beach (Gran Platja), but also coves including Sa Cova, which is one of the most beautiful beaches on Costa Brava. You can park your car (for free) in the neighborhood at Cala Rovira, another beautiful sandy beach. If you walk up Cala Rovira, you will see a staircase and path on the left that runs over the cliff. Take this path and you will come to this beautiful idyllic Spanish sandy beach in a small bay. An additional advantage:if the waves in Cala Rovira are too high, there is a good chance that your children can enjoy a peaceful swim in the bay of Sa Cova.

Disadvantage:unlike Cala Rovira, Sa Cova does not have a lifeguard. However, we did not find this a problem, partly due to the small-scale nature. Sa Cova was the most beautiful beach we visited on the Costa Brava, closely followed by number 2:Cala del Pi.

Cala del Pi

Cala del Pi is located in Platja d'Aro, away from the crowds. The entrance to this beach is next to Hotel del Pi and is accessible to everyone. Parking is free here. You have to go down some stairs, but the view is fantastic. This sandy beach is perfect for small children and you can also snorkel very nicely! Many locals come to swim here and I understand that very well:a beautiful natural environment, clear sea that slopes gently and no mass tourism around you.

Tamariu

Tamaríu is a lovely sandy beach on the Costa Brava. The town has a small, clean boulevard. Here you will find good restaurants for a reasonable price. Eat the tastiest tapas here at the end of the afternoon and your holiday is a success. We parked here for €2.60 for a whole day! Bring your snorkel set, because you can see beautiful fish here.

Cala de la Fosca

Near Palamós is the beach Cala de la Fosca. This sandy beach also slopes gently, so that children can play and swim here peacefully. It is therefore certainly one of the most beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava. Our favorite activity? Let the surf of the sea wash you up on the beach in an inflatable tire. And while you're here, be sure to check out Palamós harbor at 5pm when the fishing boats come back from the sea and unload their cargo of fish, shrimp and other sea creatures.

Platja s'Agaro

This beach is located slightly south of Platja d'Aro and is also less touristy. It is not an idyllic small bay, such as Sa Cova or Cala del Pi, but it is in a beautiful setting. However, the sea runs down a bit faster here and that is less convenient for young children. For teenagers, on the other hand, it is extra fun:in the sea there is a platform with stairs from which they can dive!

Platja d'Aro

Gran Platja in Platja d'Aro is an elongated beach with a boulevard. The second seaside resort on the Costa Brava has a beautiful sandy beach. During the weekend it is very busy here, but on the Monday that we were there we were able to relax on the beach. The many different restaurants on the boulevard serve the tastiest Spanish dishes. Placed at number 7 purely because of the touristic character, but it is actually a lovely beach 😉 .

Platja de LlaFranc

Clear sea, beautiful nature and here too there are some more facilities such as beach beds, lifeguard and restaurants. The sea does not slope down very slowly, but it is nice and cool on a hot day!

Tossa de Mar

Tossa de Mar is very suitable for diving and snorkelling. The only downside is the pebble beach and the crowds. But hey, it's fun for a day (part). Because of the pebbles and the bustle in the town at number 8, but we did enjoy it.

Spain:again next summer!?

We will no longer rule out Spain next summer vacation. In fact, we want to see even more of this country. We have not yet seen all the beaches on the Costa Brava! Are you still going to the Costa Brava? Then I wish you a lot of fun. Don't forget your mini toiletries? Really super handy 🙂
