It's already getting pretty cold and to make the days a bit warmer, we'll show you the most beautiful beaches in Central America here. You may not have thought of these countries as a holiday destination before, but seeing these hidden paradises will probably change your mind.
Belize
Belize is arguably one of the most beautiful beach destinations in Central America. Isolated, unique and mostly undiscovered. About 400 kilometers from the coast are beautiful beaches with about 200 paradisiacal islands off the coast that invite to various water sports and relaxation. Ambergris Caye - located near Belize City - is the largest of the islands. The beaches border the azure blue sea, the hotels are excellent and you can choose from a wide range of activities such as snorkelling and diving. This island is closest to the famed Great Big Hole (Blue Hole), a mecca for divers from around the world and made famous by marine researchers such as Jacques Cousteau. It is not for nothing that the area has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Honduras
The most spectacular beaches here can be found on the Islas de la Bahía, an archipelago formed by the large islands of Utila, Roatan and Guanaja and about 60 smaller islands. In Roatan, head to the West End located at the southernmost tip. The unspoilt countryside and the many activities for relaxation and entertainment are within easy reach. Utila is the smallest of the three islands and despite its small size, most of it is uninhabited. The underwater world here is unparalleled and the island is known as the cheapest destination for obtaining diving certificates. The large coral reef surrounding the island is over 1000 kilometers long and is home to more than 500 species of fish, 1000 manatees and an incredible number of dolphins. Also around Utila swims the largest population of whale sharks that is studied by the present research center.
Costa Rica
With beaches on both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, Costa Rica enjoys a privileged position. And separated by just a three-hour drive or a 45-minute flight, both are easily accessible in one trip. The beaches of Costa Rica offer something for everyone. Some beaches are ideal for families; almost no waves and plenty of palm trees that protect against the sun. And others are perfect for a romantic stay; tranquil, spectacular landscapes that invite long walks, breathtaking sunsets and great for surfing and diving. Head to the beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park where you'll share the sand with iguanas and sloths. Or stay at one of the exclusive resorts in Conchal and Tamarindo. The relaxed pace of Caribbean life can be found on the beaches of Limón or Cahuita.
El Salvador
El Salvador also enjoys plenty for lovers of sun, relaxation and water sports. Surfers seek out the waves in Las Flores in San Miguel and Punta Roca in La Libertad, while romantics seek their way out to the beaches of El Zonte, Barra de Santiago or the Costa del Sol. The latter is a favorite of many.
Located in La Paz, you will find 15 kilometers of uninterrupted beach, the longest in the country and one of the main attractions. An ideal destination for a relaxing stay in one of the exclusive resorts.
Guatemala
Just like Costa Rica, Guatemala has beaches on both sides, both on the Pacific Ocean and on the the Atlantic Ocean. Due to the volcanic activity, beaches usually consist of black sand. One of the exceptions to this are the white beaches of Playa Blanca. These are located in the Izabal department and can be reached by boat from Rio Dulce as well as Livingstone and Puerto Barrios. Playa Blanca is a private and secluded area, but accessible to visitors. The protected status ensures that no construction activity is allowed. So no hotels or restaurants that affect the natural state of this little paradise.
