The man here in the house has already suggested it… 'Honey, shall we book the skiing holiday now?' I look at him in disbelief. Like this. I think that's clear. Personally, I am quite a last minute type, unlike Frank. He prefers to be there when it comes to booking holidays, buying concert tickets, planning weekends away and so on.

Anyway, while I finally take a sighing seat on my new lounge set - with a delicious cappuccino - enjoying the first rays of sun that warm my body through the veranda roof, I am again flung with both legs to the snow. He wants to book again. Now this is not strange to me, because this question comes back every year, just after we have been on a winter sport ourselves. I am lucky that he will only start talking about it in April, and not in February when we just got back from our winter sports.
Secretly I think he didn't dare…
Because as much fun as skiing is, my experiences are being drowned out this year because I tore my cruciate ligament while skiing. If you want to read how it all went, click on the link I would say 😉 .
So I don't really listen to it yet, to that whole skiing thing. Even after three months I am still not up and running and my portion of guts has fallen to a big minus.
Nevertheless, we now know from experience that it is smart to book the ski holiday in time. The nicest places are quickly fully booked. For example, there are also many people who - immediately when they return, or even if they are still on winter sports - secure the same accommodation for next year and already arrange all ski rental with, for example, Sport 2000 rent. Are they all set.
I'm not a big fan of arranging early. Not because it's not convenient, because it is. And not because I necessarily want to go somewhere else, because that never matters to me. I only find a year further so far away. Anything can happen in the meantime and as much as I love skiing, I'm tired of winter and just don't want to talk about it anymore. Soi.
So it's actually my fault that every year in October or so we roam the internet like mad to look for accommodation and book the ski holiday. And you guessed it… at that moment a lot is already fully booked and the choice is becoming increasingly difficult. Everything you can still find is expensive, you can forget about the luck.
In principle, we must therefore ensure that the accommodation is already completed, especially because we are going with a group of 6 adults and 6 children. At least, that's how it has been in recent years. However, there is a couple that every year shouts 'we don't know yet'. That also makes booking a bit more difficult of course. But if the house or hotel has already been fixed, then the rest (such as the ski rental) can take a while. That's not the problem.
In recent years we have all spent the ski holiday in hotels, and the last two years even in the same hotel Falkenstein. With pool, with spa, with delicious food and excellent service. For example, even the skis and boots that we rented for the children at Sport 2000 rent were delivered to the hotel. Ideal! That means arriving on Saturday and being able to go straight into the snow. This instead of having to arrange the ski rental on the spot, really a godsend.
Well, if I think of it that way, booking in advance does have its advantages. Maybe I should just let Frank look for the best accommodations and not get involved in booking the ski holiday myself. Then we have two birds with one stone. I can focus on the sun and the summer, and he has peace in his ass again.
Tell me, do you always book well in advance, or are you a late bloomer like me?
