It does indeed seem to have become 'the new normal'. Corona is part of our lives and the question is for how long. Even though many people have been directly confronted with the nasty consequences of Corona, I have to tell you that luckily we have not (had) so much trouble with this so far. I have captured the best memories of this corona year so far in a photo book to also keep the good feeling about this year.
Because when I got from Smartphoto When asked if I wanted to capture our corona year in a photo book, I actually thought that was a very good idea! I hardly ever make photo albums, but I do take a lot of photos. But because this year is still a special year, I thought it would be nice to record a few things about this. Also to be able to remember the good things of this year. For us and for the children later.

Of course we were also obliged to be home at times, and of course I also had the children at home for months instead of allowing them to go to school. And they couldn't go to grandma. As we speak, Lotte is also at home because she has a cold. But because I work from home, this doesn't cause many inconveniences… it fits our pattern very well. In that sense, 2020 is basically just a good year. Despite the fact that we may also have to leave many things behind, there are also possibilities.
You would almost be inclined to think that 2020 is a year in which we have been able to do 'nothing' at all, but when I look back it is not that bad for us. We have actually done a lot. In and around the house, but also outdoors. Of course we also had to make concessions this year. For example, our friends weekends were canceled and a family barbecue fell into the water due to corona. But we were able to let our vacations continue. They fell exactly in periods when things were going better and there were no orange areas abroad. In fact... during our winter sports we were not aware of the Corona dangers at all. It wasn't until the day we got back that the news started to get 'closer'.
So I sat down to take a look at what we have all done this corona year to capture this in a photo book.
I start with this with our winter sports in Austria where Lotte was injured a week in advance and was unable to go skiing. What's new? During the winter sports she also lost her mind completely because of her huge nosebleeds. A few times with a heavy nosebleed and blood coming out of her eyes for at least 50 minutes straight. That was a good scare for us. In retrospect, after examination, it turned out that haemolacria is not serious, fortunately. Fortunately Frank and Luc were able to ski a lot, I stayed with my girl a lot.
During the summer holidays we also spent a week in Austria. This time in Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim where we had a great time. We have therefore received little from corona here, except that we had to wear a mouth cap at a few moments. Like in the lifts up, and on the way in the gas stations in Germany. Of course, these moments also belong in our photo book about this corona year.
But we had a wonderful walk here, enjoyed nature, had a good meal and had a nice chat with each other.
I understand that you may find it strange that I also included the garden in the photo album. But since this was such a huge project (we've been in a mess for months because of this), I actually thought it should not be missing in our corona year photo book. That garden is also part of our memories and even though it cost some crumbs, we can now enjoy it immensely.
Of course, this event should not be missed! Luc passed his VMBO, woohoo! A special exam year for him, without the nerves that normally come with the exams. But also without a gala and an end-of-year party. Very unfortunate, of course, but it's a fact, so we'll deal with it. We were still able to make a small party of it luckily.
We were not only able to let our vacations continue. We have also been away for a number of days that have turned out to be well corona resistant. A boat trip through the canals of Amsterdam with Starboard Boats and a GPS car tour with Renzy electric cars. We also went to Wondr Experience and there we really took the most fantastic photos, below are a few pages from our photo album.
By the way, we also went to Paleis 't Loo, which is also perfectly doable in this corona year, I just forgot to include it in our photo book. But you can keep your distance from each other and it's nice outside.
Our weekend Breskens should of course not be missing from our holiday memories. A weekend in which Lotte and Frank drove to Breskens on their motorbikes and Luc and I went on the road a day later. A weekend of beach walks, a breath of fresh air, taking the ferry to Vlissingen and good food. Only on the ferry did we have to wear the mouth caps, but otherwise it was just enjoying.
As I mentioned above, I never actually make photo albums. When making this photo album of our corona year, I was actually already overwhelmed by everything we were able to do. But secretly I was also a bit nervous waiting for the mail. Would I have done well? Does the book reflect the same feeling I experienced while making it? When getting your hands on the fotoa boo k hard cover my nerves went straight away. What a beautiful book it has become, full of photos of all our most important moments this year. The children were also immediately enthusiastic, even Luc who never thinks of himself in the picture 😉 .
All in all I am very happy with this top idea from Smartphoto. 2020 has been an eventful year so far, but we have also been able to do a lot of fun things and I am extremely grateful for that. The 'proof' is here on display in the cupboard!
It was quite a bit of work, I must admit. Picking out the best photos is actually the biggest job. Making the photo book itself is actually quite simple afterwards. The feeling this book gave me the moment I opened it for the first time has made me want to 'capture' the past 15 years in online photo albums - retroactively. It will be a lot of work, but I am convinced that this is fantastic after all. For us for now, but also for the children for later.
