This national park, listed as a UNESCO heritage site, is only about fifty kilometers from Miami. In an airboat, earplugs in your ears to protect yourself from the roar of the propeller, you float/fly above the reeds and water lilies in search of alligators. Cap well hung on the head, glasses to protect yourself as much from the sun as from the impacts of dragonflies, we play the Crocodile Dundee and we let out a cry of joy when the first specimen appears. Sliding all around our boat without ever threatening us, he almost seems to strike a pose in front of the lens. The baby alligators are much more fearful and throw themselves under the mangrove trees when we approach. The ranger who accompanies us (gatorpark.com) tells us that this park is the only place in the world where alligators coexist in their natural state with crocodiles, reputed to be more aggressive… We won't come across any today, fortunately!
