It's the Saint-Tropez, Ibiza and Mykonos of the 1970s... The gypsetteurs (contraction of gypsie and jet-setter) have made Comporta one of their strongholds, along with the Hamptons or Tangier. Go shopping at Gomes (rua do Comércio 2), a convenience store where you can find sardines and caviar. Right next door, you can drink a coffee or a fresh fruit juice, accompanied by a pasteis de nata, at the local Sénéquier, the Eucalyptus, with its no-frills plastic tables. For lunch, with your feet in the sand, you can enjoy grilled fish with Sal (salt in Portuguese), very chic, on the beach of Pego or, more simply, in the hut O Dinis, on the beach of Carvalhal. The aperitif is taken at the Colmo bar (Largo de São João 3), in the heart of the village of Comporta, on a bench covered with cushions, facing the sunset over the rice fields populated by storks...
The shops with thatched awnings have nothing to envy to those of the Riviera. Manumaya (Largo de São João 8) offers products from Guatemala, including popular bedspreads. In the Babouchette concept store (Becos da Comporta 2), created by a Frenchwoman, the hippie-chic jewelry of a designer from Cascais, sandals, Balinese saris... For the local wine, it will be in the neighboring store, opened by the kiosk's son, Daniel Valentim, as the wine estate is closed on weekends.
