Pack your suitcase; it sounds a lot simpler than it is. At least… that's what I think. But maybe (read:to be sure) I also lack some special packing qualities, that could just be. Since I am also the type that always packs my suitcase at the last minute, that combination is not convenient!
We are now back from a 2 week holiday. I will briefly explain to you what it is like with us just before we leave. I get irritated every time, but I can't seem to learn it!

Husband has a vacation checklist (one I always make fun of) and it starts working days in advance. I? Nope. I'm at work then, because that's where there's a lot that needs to be eliminated (I don't think so). The only thing I do for days in advance is… wash. My motto:when everything is ready in the closet, you are ready to pack your suitcase in no time. I have since found out that not all mottos work 😉 .
Of course, the above means that I still have to do everything last minute. Frank and I have an unspoken agreement together. I pack my own suitcase and the children's, he does the rest. But then so is everything else. From coffee maker to passports and from toys to books for the necessary relaxation. So I'm sure of that.
My first last minute activity is that at 4 pm I think for a moment that I would like to have some summer dresses and a bikini. I stop working. On to the center. The advantage is that you only have an hour to shop, because then the shops close. The BIG disadvantage is of course that you might not find anything and go home cranky again. But… I was lucky! And so does my hubby . Summer dresses enough, only the bikini failed. But since I'm not bikini-proof, I take that for granted.
And then comes the worst part. Pack my suitcase. Somehow I have an innate aversion to this part of the holiday. I find it awkward and I can't do it well. I always think that I don't have enough with me to come back with more than half a suitcase of clean clothes. Do you recognize that? I know that about myself, and yet I can't seem to change it.
In addition, once my suitcase is packed and ready, I always remember that this-this-and-that also has to go. And then you get all those loose bags and loose shoes that are added to the car. Clumsy. unclear. A mess.
Now I have a very nice SuitSuit suitcase via Coolblue at my disposal, I think I am a real handsome. And handy too, because there are 360° wheels underneath so you can simply drive it in front of you. In my fantasy I walk with this suitcase from the airport over a beautiful boulevard to my luxury hotel. In reality, this holiday at the campsite was a bit different, but who knows what trips I will make with my buddy.
But the biggest problem remains. And that's because of my way of packing the suitcase. My way of packing means, among other things, that there is less space in my suitcase. But much more irritating is that, if you open the suitcase incorrectly, half of it always falls out.
Now this suitcase has solved that for me for half, because you can zip it closed on one side. Handy for small items. But the way I pack up to now, I also have piles of clothes on the other side, with socks and underwear crammed in between, because hey… that suitcase must be full! And you get it… this is the side that falls out when I open the suitcase incorrectly.
Fortunately, there is Youtube for the necessary tricks. Above you can see how I do it myself and what NOT to do. Thanks to the lady further on in the video you can immediately see how it CAN be done. It may look a bit typical at first, but what a beautiful package this woman folds! The advantages are countless:
But 'every advantage has its disadvantage'... so is this way of packaging. If you think you need to quickly get something out of your suitcase to exchange your sweater for a shirt, for example… think again 😉 , because EVERYTHING has to be unfolded!
I'm not sure what the best way to pack my suitcase is, are you? Or do you have any other tips?
