The National Museum of Antiquities will be the place to be for us this time. I regularly look for a fun but also educational Sunday afternoon to spend. Now that spring break is just around the corner, the challenge is perhaps even greater. Of course I don't have to fill every day, after all, there must also be rest and space to be bored. Boredom seems to be good for creativity, they say. But at least one educational/cultural and interactive daytime activity should be successful, right?!

Now I myself have always been fascinated by the Egyptians. The sphinxes in the middle of the desert and mysterious temples certainly appeal to the imagination. The boys have also had some experience with this period in history lessons, so the National Museum of Antiquities fits in nicely with their Egyptian theme.

The National Museum of Antiquities therefore has Egypt as its theme during the spring break! And as befits a modern museum in antiquities, it is virtually interactive. No boring walking around in silence and staring at a few display cases without knowing what you're looking at; no, go on a quest yourself and answer questions and roll up your sleeves while unsuspectingly also learn something about classical antiquity! That's a nice outing with your children.
Extensive information about the mighty queens (go girl power!) and via an audio tour by Klaas van Kruistum (you know from Zapplive and Checkpoint) you will hear about the most important civilization of antiquity. The museum has a special Dummie the Mummy scavenger hunt for the holidays, with a chance to win a prize package. But they have also come up with other fun quests ranging for ages from four years, five years, seven years and eight years. There is something fun to discover in the museum for every age.

The creative person is given plenty of thought during the holidays! An entire room has been cleared to give all the space to creativity. For example, they have implemented the Mummy theme so that even the cuddly toys can participate. You can bring your own cuddly toy and wrap it up and decorate it completely like a mummy. It is even possible to model Egyptian cats and scarabs. If your child doesn't like modelling, you can always imitate a lego sphinx or play a memory game. The exhibition 'Queens of the Nile' can be seen until April 17, 2017.
I think that this way the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden has something for everyone and for every age from 4 years. While searching and especially tinkering, we will soon discover ancient Egypt. Do you want also? Then participate in our giveaway!
