What do you think of when you think of a weekend in France? Eating a croissant under the Eiffel Tower? Strolling on the Champs-Elysées? Very cool, those hotspots, but France has so much more to offer than Paris! And yes, the south coast is quite a long drive… certainly for a Dutchman who thinks a ride from Limburg to Groningen is already a long way. But the country has many more beautiful areas, which are barely further away than Groningen 😉 . Especially if you live in the south of our country. What is your favorite part of France?
A city trip to Paris, you must have done that once. Preferably with your first boyfriend 😉 . In any case, make sure that you have it done as soon as there are kids, because keeping an eye on small children in a metropolis like Paris usually does not really provide a relaxing weekend away. Moreover, they probably enjoy Donald Duck at Disneyland more than the Eiffel Tower. Also nice of course, but this time we want something different. We are going to France for a weekend around the corner, at a very different location than usual. Actually, we normally drive to the surroundings of Fréjus, on the Côte d'Azur. Nice, but not so convenient for a weekend. In addition, we would like to discover the other possibilities in this vast country!

It is not the most popular area of France:the west coast in the north. Strange really, because nature is beautiful and you are there in no time. Ideal if you don't have a summer holiday yet, but just want to go to France for a weekend. And despite the fact that it is 'next door', you still get that wonderful holiday in France feeling. Although the weather has to cooperate a little... Have you ever been to the French west coast? And I'm not talking about Normandy, or further south, but more about the North. You will also find a beautiful coastal region in Northern France that is ideal to visit with the children. Do they have a weekend at the sea, without having to sit in the car for days. Oh, and mom and dad too of course.
Even though we really do have a trip to Paris with the kids on our wish list, we are now going to the coast for a weekend. This weekend we will visit camping le Ridin. An authentic campsite near the Bay of Somme and I am very curious what it is like there.
Unfortunately, the forecast for the weather does not look very spectacular, but that should not spoil the fun. The campsite is not huge, unlike another Yelloh Village campsite we visited two years ago. That one was really huge 😉 . But now we are mainly going to take a look at nature. Maybe even spot seals. The Somme Bay is one of the 30 most beautiful bays in the world, so that will be fine. If all goes well, we'll rent some bicycles and explore the area - the Dutch way!

You will also find a top combination of sea, nature and culture. There is actually plenty to do in the area I've seen. Such as a visit to an old palace or to the oldest amusement park in France. Have the kids also forgotten how close Disneyland is and we just save the city trip for next time. Everything in its time, right?
