To the Campina Open Farm Days with the family, we can certainly recommend it to you. Last Friday, the four of us invited us to visit the Campina Open Farm Days, specifically to the farm of the Veldhuisen family in Nigtevecht. Kudos to the organisers. They have turned the Campina Farm Days into a fun event!

I don't know if you recognize the questions, but I do know them. “Mom… can you get some more money out of the wall?” or “Mom, in which factory is that milk made?” These are, of course, innocent questions from curious people… but they are based on a lot of ignorance. Our children are so used to getting everything in the store that they actually have no idea what comes before.
An excellent reason to take the kids to something like the Campina Farm Days. In addition, we are all (well, almost all except the Man) huge animal lovers, so watching the cows and the calves is something we love to do! It is not only fun, but also very educational, without them feeling that they 'have to' learn.
Nice detail:in our case Campina ambassador Epke Zonderland was also present… he just doesn't walk around every farm during the Campina Farm Days, you understand that 😉 .
You can go to the Campina Farm Days on 11 May (yep, has already happened) and on 21 May. Admission is free and May 21 may be on a Monday… it is Whit Monday. A great day for a fun free and educational trip!
And let's face it… rather snooping around a farm and seeing how things go than wandering around a furniture boulevard in all the hustle and bustle, isn't it?
You can enjoy fun activities at all 57 participating farms on the Campina Farm Days.
In our case, the farmer told a complete story from the birth of a calf, giving the mother cow's milk to the moment of maternity leave and everything in between.
We get to see all the maternity rooms, from the calf that was born that morning to the calves that are already without the mother.
Of course we also see where the milking machines do their work. Twenty cows can be milked at the same time on this farm. This takes about fifteen minutes per twenty cows, and that must be done in the morning and in the evening. In total about 2.5 hours there. But that is of course not all they do!
In addition, a veterinarian was also present who extensively discussed the stomachs of a cow and how this ingenious system works exactly. super interesting! Did you know that a cow eats about this per day?
After the tour, there will be time for some distraction in the form of some activities for your kids to do. You can of course also skip the tour and go straight to the activities through storms, but I found the tour itself really of added value for young and old.
Anyway, the assault course… that speaks for itself I think.
In addition to the assault course, children can also race on these cute skippy cows, unfortunately I couldn't get mine that crazy anymore 😉 .
Just measure the forces. Who can lift the best without help from mom or dad? Of course you can all compete in your own 'weight class'.
Very nice of course to let the little ones feel how it works now, milking a cow. This 'cow' was used extensively .
Did you know that a cow gives about 90 glasses of milk a day?
As mentioned, the Campina Farm Days are free to visit and you can also taste delicious Campina products at the dairy bar.
In addition to these fixed activities above, you will also find 'own activities' that are organized per farm.
In Nigtevegt, cuddling rabbits was high on our agenda, but you could also kick Campina over, for example.
Besides the stand where all visitors can try the tastiest custards, we were lucky enough to have an extensive picnic on the farmer's grounds. And what could be more fun than looking for a piece of pasture where the cows are in the background!
All in all, we spent a wonderful morning at this farm in Nigtevecht and I can only say that -if you have the opportunity- you should really visit one of the Campina farm days. It is worth it and you can easily enjoy yourself there for a few hours.
