A few months ago we did not know whether our holiday would continue, but now we have had a wonderful week in Carinthia Austria with the children. We stayed at Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim and I am happy to take you through our holiday adventures, as always.

A few years ago we spent our first summer vacation with the children in Austria. At the time we were in Viehhofen and this time we wanted to discover a different part of Austria. So off to Carinthia! Again we went to a Landal park, Bad Kleinkirchheim. We have very fond memories of the last time we went on holiday with Landal, so why not do it again now?

I can imagine that you are a bit hesitant about spending your holiday in an apartment. But we have now done it for the second time and I can tell you; it's totally okay! Especially in a country like Austria, because that's where you really go to see something of the area. If you are looking for a bake-and-tan holiday, Austria may not be your first thought, but in all other cases I can certainly recommend this country.
We ourselves are not so fond of the bake-and-brown. Although I can really enjoy an afternoon at the beach, I am more into discovering the environment, nature and the cities. In that case, an apartment is not a problem at all, because we are away from home a lot. If we have already walked a lot in nature, for example, I don't mind at all to sit on my balcony at the end of the afternoon instead of in a spacious garden or a piece of grass in front of my tent.
And the children also love to plop on the couch and make use of the free WiFi. Check the teenager. In addition, the apartments of Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim are in tip-top condition. Nice and clean, nice and spacious and not too noisy. This turned out to be the case during our holiday 😉 .
I think the great thing about Landal is that everyone gets their money's worth. There are playgrounds for the little ones and often a swimming pool. In some parks, such as Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim, you will also find tennis courts. In addition, space has been set up for young people in all parks. You will also find, for example, a billiards table, table football and a fire pit to chill out in the evening.
And there is always a restaurant in the park where you can have a bite to eat or take away. So when it comes to staying at the Landal park itself, you have all kinds of options.
Below you can read how we liked Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim. More information can be found on their website.
As I have already indicated to you above, our apartment was spacious (6 persons), clean and not too noisy. But personally I think that's "normal". What strikes me is that there were many Dutch people in this Landal park and especially many with children aged 3-15 years. Which is nice, because your children have equal rights with other children of their age. They can just chat in Dutch and that makes making friends just that little bit easier. Coincidentally, I also heard from our holiday 'neighbour' that this was the main reason for her to go to Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim with her children. With two smaller children who have made friends at the park right from day one, it is also a bit more relaxed for you as a parent, right?!
In our case, making friends doesn't quite work out. We are away a lot during the day and in the evening we love to sit on the couch or play a game.
The Landal park itself is beautiful and wonderfully green. With an idyllic stream, for the atmosphere and a root terrace at the indoor play area, you are fully equipped. The houses where the apartments are situated are at a good distance from each other so that it looks like a kind of village. Lots of greenery in between with a playground or other space to play here and there. At the reception there are employees who speak Dutch and the restaurant has more than enough options for good food.
Lotte did take a dip with Frank in Landal's swimming pool. Our agreement is always that he does the indoor pools with the kids and not the outdoor pools 😉 . The pool is not huge, but big enough to take a bath. There is also a paddling pool, which is great with small children.
There are really a lot of activities organized. Super fun if you spend a bit more time in the park. Every day the little ones are entertained with all kinds of craft activities and, for example, a basketball or football hour is organised. In addition, there are many activities that you can participate in with the Sonnenscheincard that you get for free with your stay at the Landal Kleinkirchheim park. Think, for example, of surfing lessons, mountain bike training, an animal walk or herbal walk. But also baking baguettes, kayaking and tennis lessons are available. Plenty of choice for enthusiasts! If you want to go a step further, you can even go rafting or canyoning under supervision and with a little extra.
Of course, Bollo is also included in this Landal park and you can chill out by a campfire in Bad Kleinkirchheim, go on a treasure hunt with Bollo or go on a torchlight procession. A barbeque is organized every week for which you can register, but also making cocktails and a pizza baking course are on the program. Very nice and yet we didn't do anything, haha. But that is up to us.
We are quite fond of going out and seeing how the day goes. The only thing we have done is have sandwiches delivered every morning. They hung beautifully on our front door and we were provided with breakfast and lunch. Leftover sandwiches from breakfast disappeared – filled and already – in the backpack to eat somewhere on top of the mountain in the afternoon.
Of course I will go into this in more detail in subsequent blogs, but I would like to inform you that this area is also fantastic for all kinds of day trips. We have arranged the Kärnten card for this holiday in Carinthia with which you have more than 100 free entrances. You can visit and use all kinds of beautiful sights, animal parks, swimming pools, elevators and so on. Highly recommended if you also want to see a lot of the area. For example, if you only go out twice during your holiday, then this map is not interesting for you. But if you also enjoy the daily trips, the Kärnten card pays for itself (more than) in full!
We have undertaken the following activities:
We did the above in 5 days 😉, you will undoubtedly understand that those were full days haha. On day 6 it would mainly rain a lot. Because we had had wonderful weather the other days, we went to pack and drove home.
