25 good reasons to get back to writing postcards

On vacation, at work, at home, it's decided:this year, we take out our pencils and take off (two minutes) our fingers from our keyboards to (re)start writing postcards to our loved ones. Why ? For at least 25 good reasons:

Because our family, our friends and/or our colleagues will be touched to see that we managed to motivate ourselves to line up words with a real pen (we're not used to it anymore!), to buy a card in real paper/cardboard (no virtual!) and even sticking a stamp (sometimes even with our tongue, when the stamp was already self-adhesive)! All this just for them!

Because the digital maps often disappear in the maze of our mailboxes while the writings (on paper) remain.

Because it allows us to write without Word's autocorrector or that of our smartphones. We rediscover the spelling. Very destabilizing. Just like finding his real handwriting ("ha yes, I forgot that I wrote like a 5-year-old child").

Because we catch big laughs while browsing with our bulging eyes the ultra-beautiful postcards on display at certain kiosks, with zooms on a series of ultra-silicone hills à la Baywatch or (too) cute animals meowing cliche messages.

Because you'll feel like you're doing something a little useful and good after spending the day languishing by the water's edge, empty-headed in aquarium mode.

Because our loved ones will be able to display our card on their fridge and thus replace the shipment from 5 years ago, ugly and full of mistakes.

Because by displaying postcards at home, we will have the impression of traveling just by looking at our fridge. And that, by the way, seeing the images of beaches, we will remember that the jersey is coming soon, and that we must therefore ease off on the mayo.

Because it allows us to unleash our creativity. Drawings of all kinds, jewelry stickers, calligraphy, dripping ink (yes, let's say it was done on purpose), there are 1001 ways to customize our texts.

We can also play on our style of writing, working on our poetic metaphors and reviewing our counterparts. For example, we can say, casually (or not), that during our cruise, the captain's wife sent for the sailor on board...

Because between two big files at work or two wet diapers from Junior, writing a few kind words will make us escape and bring us the comfort we need.

Because we rediscover our child's soul by remembering that time when our parents forced us to tell grandpa/grandma that the sun was beautiful and the water was good.

Because our girlfriends will be able to marvel at the beautiful landscapes... No, let's be honest:because they will be ultra-jealous! #Hihi

Because it's more practical than sending a bottle overboard or a carrier pigeon.

Because we can enrich our collection of stamps. Or start one (yes, like your dad).

Because it allows us to make a good gesture, by choosing solidarity cards, such as those of Unicef or Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque/Enfants du Monde.

Because even if we had a vacation in the rain, by buying a sunny card, we will manage (a little) to give ourselves the impression that in fact, the weather was not so ugly.

Because when our guests see our "wall of cards", they'll think we have lots of friends who love us (yeah!).

Because choosing a pretty card is also relaxing. And that it allows us to admire the handsome man who turns the kiosk at the same time as us ("han, we chose the same card! It's a sign!").

Because there are plenty of very original cards, with 3D images, pop-ups or even "message thrown in a bottle" (yes, yes, it's on newsstands and it's sent by post).

Because we can have fun creating our own postcards. To try the pop-up, it's here.

Because it always makes our loved ones laugh when we hand them the postcards we forgot to send them.

Because if we're abroad, we're going to have an epic time trying to explain in sign language where we want to send our cards. A good moment of marrade (at least after the fact) that we will like to tell.

Because by writing, we talk about US, we tell OUR life and we express ourselves. And that little self-centered moment always feels good…

Because by writing a card of a pretty café terrace and posting it in one of those yellow boxes -the same as in the old films (the new ones too, for that matter...)- you almost have the impression of doing a journey through time.

Because writing a card is good:it allows us to focus for a few minutes on the people we love, on us, and to take the time... to take the time. Quite simply.
