Going to a restaurant is a luxury that unfortunately not everyone can afford, but a Japanese restaurant has found the solution to make this little privilege accessible to as many people as possible. The Mirai Shokudo, located in Chiyoda Ward in Tokyo, offers its customers to pay for their meal not with money, but with the sweat of their brow. Indeed, they are invited to do the service for 50 minutes, either at the dishwasher or in the serving room and clearing the 12 covers of the establishment. The original concept is all about helping people in need, as owner Sekai Kobayashi – who is the restaurant’s sole employee – explains to Konbini :“I thought of this system to attract hungry people who, for lack of money, cannot afford to eat in a restaurant .
Mirai Shokudo, which opened in 2015, is described as "a place where everyone is welcome" and where no distinction is made. Of course, it is possible to normally pay for your lunch, which is generally around 6-7 euros (and it looks divine, judge for yourself!), but more than 500 customers have already opted for the alternative of service to be performed. We find the idea brilliant, above all because it offers people in difficulty and/or homelessness a fundamental right:to eat when they are hungry. We hope that restaurants in France and around the world will be inspired by it...
