Almost 40 percent of Dutch campers are ashamed of noises they make in the camping toilet. However, walking across the campsite with a toilet roll is no problem for 97% of the campers. Walking across the campsite with a toilet roll is no problem for 97 percent of the campers. This is apparent from research by Edet.
Once in the toilet block, campers do experience shame. Young campers in particular suffer from this (on average three quarters of the campers under the age of 30, with the campers over 40 this is still more than half). Campers are most ashamed of the noises they make. People also find it embarrassing to leave a smell behind.
No less than 80 percent of the campers bring their own toilet paper. Nearly a quarter of campers take both dry and moist toilet paper with them to the campsite. Others use moist toilet paper at home, but not at the campsite. The most common reason for this is that they find it difficult to take it to the toilet block.
According to slightly more than half of the campers, the camping toilets are cleaner than they used to be. There is no question that the toilet must be clean. There must also be an opportunity to wash and dry hands hygienically, according to the campers. A fresh smell and dry floor are experienced as less important.
