The Disney On Ice Magic Ice Festival can be visited in Rotterdam and Utrecht from 11 to 29 December 2019. Wondering if the show is worth the money? We visited Disney On Ice Magic Ice Festival in Ahoy on Friday 13 December 2019.
Every year Disney On Ice organizes a spectacular show in Rotterdam and Utrecht. For 2 hours visitors can enjoy the skating performances of all kinds of Disney characters. Think Beauty and the Beast, Simba and Pumba, Rapunzel, Aladdin and many more. The show is different every year and so are the performances. Disney on Ice started in 1981 in America, but can now be seen in various countries, including traditionally in the Netherlands in December.
We visited Disney On Ice Magic Ice Festival on Friday, December 13, 2019. Although my children are now 20 and 18, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Well, almost then:behind my daughter sat a tall man who at first was waving his coat wildly all the time and banging my daughter's hair and head all the time until my son and daughter said something. Subsequently, the man or son of this man was pushing / kicking in her chair for the first half of the show, so that at one point she even got back pain. After the break we switched seats and it was over.
The show was great from the start. The costumes, the lighting, the choreography, music and of course the skaters themselves:everything is perfectly coordinated. I was often surprised that nothing happened at such a speed. Everything went through and past each other like a well-oiled machine. It all looked equally beautiful and you really got the impression that the skaters themselves also enjoyed their performances.
What I personally also liked very much was the fact that the decor was partly built and moved by the skaters themselves. A ship was even skated on the ice twice. The animals (Maximus the horse from Rapunzel and Sven from Frozen) were also played by two skaters.
The festival is opened by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald Duck. They also announce the various performances. That is all very nicely packaged in a story and therefore certainly not a boring announcement of acts. In the first half there were performances by Ariel, Moana and Rapunzel. After a fifteen minute break (enough to have a quick pee or get a drink) the show continued with Beauty and the Beast. To conclude, we as visitors were treated to Frozen. Elza and Anna were clearly favorites among the many children who attended the show. The various songs were sung along and the children were very enthusiastic.
Of course the stories were shortened, but it was done in such a way that you just understood the whole story and couldn't miss the most important things. The show is a must for the whole family. Not only small children enjoy, my children also enjoyed. Unfortunately, I was not able to take too many pictures, because my battery suddenly drained very quickly. Even before the show ended, my phone was off. Unfortunately, charging in the car was not possible either.
