As you could read in my previous blog about Texel, my husband and I discovered the Stayokay hostels this year. Our previous trip to Stayokay Texel went so well that we have now tried Stayokay Dordrecht. A weekend stay with our daughter in this beautiful hostel in the middle of the Biesbosch and near Dordrecht, so a small party. Here too the reception was nice, friendly employees and a nice large reception desk with a spacious seating area.
The hostel has a beautiful view over the water, where all kinds of boats sail past and where you can enjoy a drink and snack on the terrace. It is also a good place for children, because they can have a good time in the Playground of Stayokay Dordrecht.
The hostel has recently been thoroughly renovated. The rooms have become very nice and are comparable to a hotel. We had a family room with a nice double bed, a bunk bed for our daughter and a separate shower and toilet. An ideal room to spend the night for a family with enough space for your luggage.
What we also liked is that there is a high cupboard between the bunk bed and the double bed as a kind of partition. This separation allows your child to go to sleep while you are still awake. Do you have a baby or toddler who still sleeps in a camping cot? Then there is enough space in the family rooms to add a cot.
If you stay overnight in the Biesbosch in Stayokay Dordrecht, there are plenty of fun activities to do with children, such as boating, walking and playing in fun playgrounds. These are some of the activities we have done:
The Weizigtpark in Dordrecht is located in the center near the station and is a beautiful park with a playground and petting zoo. There is also a sustainability center where you can find information about sustainable living and sustainability in the region and there are games for children.
In the park you can take a nice walk and you will end up in a large playground where Laura had a great time.
There is a petting zoo next to the playground. When the weather is nice, it's an ideal place to have a picnic in the park! For more information and opening times, look here.
From Stayokay Dordrecht you will be in the middle of the Biesbosch in no time. If you go to the visitor center you can find out walks and get information. In the Beverbos you and your child can get to know the living environment of beavers in a playful way.

We had booked tickets in advance for a tour with a whisper boat. This is highly recommended, because the whisper boat is almost always fully booked. It is a cruise through the Biesbosch in an open boat and the skipper will tell you all kinds of information about the Biesbosch. This was a party for Laura because she was allowed to sit behind the wheel of the skipper, just like the other children on the boat. A nice experience and for us it was wonderful to sail through the Biesbosch.
From the parking lot at the visitor center De Biesbosch you can walk a bit towards restaurant de Merwelanden. This restaurant with terrace overlooks a beautiful swimming pond and a small beach. You can swim here when the weather is nice. There is also a nice nature playground. Especially the cable car that goes over a pond is a favorite with children. Plenty to do for your child when you sit and enjoy a nice glass of wine on the terrace!
Finally, I'll give you a restaurant tip. In the center of Dordrecht you will find poffertjes restaurant Visser's. In this beautiful old mansion you can eat the most delicious poffertjes. Before they are on your plate, you can see how the poffertjes are prepared. For the children there are coloring pages and colors ready to keep them occupied while waiting. But patience is rewarded and then it's good fun!

It is good to know that the prices include a tasty and extensive breakfast buffet. In addition, you can eat from the buffet in the evening (children for half the price) or you can just sit on the terrace with a view of the water and choose something delicious from the menu. We enjoyed our stay and definitely recommend this hostel for families with children!
