Last weekend we were at the HUP hotel in Mierlo to discover what you can actually do in this hotel and how much fun it is. In this review I would like to tell you about our experiences with the HUP hotel.

Let me start at the beginning so that you can make your choice if you are looking for outings with children. The HUP hotel in Mierlo is somewhat 'hidden' and yet close to the center. When you arrive, you are undoubtedly not immediately impressed by the exterior. It is a rather clunky building on the outside (except for the entrance) so you could just get a wrong impression of this hotel. But put that first thought aside and go inside. I promise you… you won't regret it!

Our children are a bit older as you know (now 11 and 15 years old) and that sometimes makes it difficult to choose a hotel that is suitable for everyone. Especially with the eldest, who is starting to have very different interests than his parents and his sister. But how he surprised us last weekend. And I am convinced that this has to do with the approach that HUP hotel has chosen for the entertainment of children. There is really a lot to do and I think that is apparent from this review.
We arrive on Saturday around noon and the idea is that we stay overnight and leave the next day around noon. We have other appointments for Sunday and we think that one night and one day is sufficient. In fact… I first had the idea to explore the area a bit as well. However, I quickly put that idea behind me from the moment I entered the HUP hotel and only really realized how great it is here. To tell you already… without going outside we took about 12,000 steps on Saturday to see and do everything. That's quite something, isn't it .
Anyway, upon arrival we are immediately greeted. While I am being helped, I also look a bit impressed. I think the entrance of the hotel is fantastic. It exudes a certain cosiness. HUP appears to have all the ingredients of a child-friendly hotel.
There are all kinds of stripes and signposts on the floors, but also game formats of various sports. There is a beautiful gymnastics cabinet with drawers (I want too!) and in the central hall you will also find wonderful hanging chairs, a slide (yes, really), a billiards table, lots of plants (I like) and a cool looking bar where you can relax. can sit comfortably in many different corners. We soon discover that the HUP hotel is really huge, but they have managed to create a very cozy atmosphere with the interior.
We start outside on the terrace with a nice lunch. Because entertainment may be important, but good food and drinks are always high on our list. And not only with mom and dad, our children are also reasonable gourmets and connoisseurs.
So I will also briefly discuss the food and drinks in this hotel. You have a number of options here. As said, we enjoyed lunch outside on the terrace, a great start to our visit here with nicely served plates and tasty dishes. You will find something for everyone on the lunch menu, from a sandwich for the youngest to an extensive bouncer and pulled chicken wrap for us.
Later in the afternoon you can enjoy a drink in the Sports bar (in the central hall with all those cozy seats) and snacks are on the menu for enthusiasts. It took a while to decide which snacks we would choose from the menu because everyone has their own preference of course, but the chicken sticks and the nachos were a great success as you can see, haha.
Frank and I relaxed for a while, but the kids quickly disappeared… into the sports hall.
In the evening you can go to HUP EET or you can grill in the grill restaurant of the hotel at the bowling alley, that's also possible. We have made a reservation for a 3-course dinner in HUP EET and again had a delicious meal there later in the evening. The house wine (which is included in the arrangement that I will tell you more about later) tastes very good; red and white have been personally tested by me 😉 . I enjoyed my starter and main (salmon and Surf &Turf) and Frank and the children also enjoyed dinner.
A nice touch is the mikado that you get when you sit down at the table so you can enjoy yourself until the food comes. The pizza cutter (and especially Lotte's use) is hilarious too .
Breakfast can also be found in HUP eats. While at dinner you can make a choice from the menu and it is served, breakfast takes place in buffet form. The buffet is extensive. From bacon and omelette, to boiled egg sausages and fried eggs. And from fruit, to pancakes and yogurt or croissants and all kinds of other tasty sandwiches on the side. It's all there. Do you prefer a salad? There is a bit of raw food for bragging rights.
Well, with all that delicious food it's nice to know that you can also get enough exercise in the HUP hotel, I'll tell you in the review below what we did during our stay.
Admittedly, it is difficult to choose where to start. A number of activities were reserved for us and we actually had a pretty busy schedule. So we did a lot, but above all had a lot of fun!
We started at the family football table of the HUP hotel, which was a great success. Although it is quite difficult to 'man' an entire table with four people. After 6 goals it was time to discover the rest of the hotel. The fact is that we were almost forced by the children to stand still everywhere and try everything, haha.
A game of football indoors with the family is fun and challenging, especially if it turns out that you have to focus on a specific subject every time. Not my kind of thing has turned out. But Luc was quite good at it. Monkeytown was only defied by Lotte, we sat at the table for a while until she was finished.
Everyone with us is up for a game of darts, and Luc and Lotte both enjoyed themselves in the street jump section. Even for a 15 year old it is still fantastic here. And as you can see… not very busy on this day!
Of course there was also a swim on Sunday. The pool is large enough, but nowhere so deep that you can easily swim laps. More so to float with the family, toss with a soft ball and practice your handstand. You can relax in one of the hot tubs. There is also a sauna area, but unfortunately we didn't have time for that anymore.
Bowling at the HUP hotel is a wonderful thing to do, and that was not only due to the fact that my very first throw was a strike 😉 . Furthermore, Lotte had to take a picture in the ball pit for Instagram, but we also extensively explored the sports hall with several games of tennis and basketball. Lotte also appears to have a real talent for the latter!
In the end we also played golf with a screen and mini golf. We looked at the fitness part, but at the end of the day we thought we had exercised enough already, but your chance to have fun there are even group lessons that you can participate in.
The term sports hotel is not too much to say. You have already been able to read in the activities above what you can do there, but the sport has been implemented in detail. The hotel rooms also breathe sport. The desks have sports socks on and a trash can with a net. There is such a large fitness ball in the room, the bathroom has a football floor and to top it off you also have your own table tennis table in the connecting rooms. Brilliant!
All in all it has been a very pleasant and successful stay for our family, real quality time with each other. Not in the least because it went so well with Luc and Lotte, but that was of course stimulated by all the activities that we were able to undertake. So a big advantage. There was never a moment when they were bored or when they reached for the phone.
What struck me is that it is so incredibly clean everywhere, this was also visible in the swimming pool and the changing rooms. Furthermore, there is only one point that I think could be improved… in my opinion there should be bath towels and bathrobes in the room to use for the swimming pool and sauna. I can't think of anything more.
Both children have stated several times that this is the nicest hotel they have ever slept in, so I have no doubt that your children will also love this.
