The summer holidays are a nice prospect, but the practical preparations often cause a lot of stress. Four out of ten holidaymakers suffer from this. And sometimes something goes wrong like; packing and forgetting things and arguing children along the way. At times, emotions run so high that a quarter of travelers have thought of going on holiday with someone else next time. This is apparent from a survey by the ANWB among 1,200 Dutch people.
Packing the stuff turns out to be a big challenge:seven out of ten holidaymakers take too much stuff with them. While the proportion of men (73%) and women (68%) who take too much stuff is similar, a majority of men who travel with their partner believe that their partner takes too much. And then almost half of the holidaymakers always forget something when traveling.
For almost 9 out of 10 travelers the holiday starts on the way to the holiday destination. However, almost half of the traveling children sometimes have an argument on the road. Keeping sweet with traditional games (23%), such as Hangman and cards remains popular, but is losing out to smartphones, tablets and game consoles. The smartphone/tablet is most often given by dad as a sweetener (52% versus 44% by mom).

The car is still the most used means of transport for going on holiday. For example, 3.7 million Dutch people opt for a car holiday abroad. A quarter of travelers even consider going on holiday by car 'the best way to travel'.
