The main reasons for a camping holiday are the freedom to go where you want, explore new destinations, enjoy the sun and good food. Just under half (47%) of the campers cook on the gas stove of the caravan or motorhome. Most of the cooking activities take place outside. The skottelbraai – a kind of wok that is connected directly to the gas bottle – is the most popular:23% of the campers cook their evening meal on the 'skottel'. With that, the barbecue (10%) seems to have been knocked off its throne. As a reason not to use the stove on board the motorhome or caravan, 51% say they would like to cook in the open air. More than 20% cooks under the awning to avoid annoying cooking smells and baking spatters in the camping equipment. This is apparent from research by the Kampeer &Caravan Jaarbeurs.
More than 20% of the respondents are very satisfied with the equipment of built-in appliances on board. There are still wishes:30% would like an extractor hood, at 18% more gas burners are on the wish list and the oven and microwave are also popular with 35% and 23% respectively.
Although most campers do not go crazy with food and drinks, 22% indicate that they gain a few kilos during the holiday, just over 2 kg. The most 'sin' is with a glass of wine (23%), tasty cheese (13%) or an ice cream (13%). Because the weight gain is not too bad, the need to take immediate action is also less great:for 19%, the kilos have to be lost immediately. For 73% the kilos have to be lost, but there is no rush. “As long as they are ready for the next holiday,” said one of the respondents.
