I can describe a visit to Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen as surprising. Last December Frank, Lotte and I were invited to drive towards the green heart of the Netherlands to spend a weekend at the Reeuwijkse Plassen and also to explore Gouda. I would be happy to tell you more about this holiday park in our review. Because how do you like this park, what do we think of the swimming pool in this Landal park and what about the eateries and the houses at the Reeuwijkse Plassen?

I'll call it out right away because you might think it too. A holiday park near the highway? That doesn't seem like anything, but I can tell you… you're wrong. The moment we arrive at Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen, I myself am still under the impression that a holiday park so close to the highway is not really nice. But I can come back to that.
Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen is centrally located and for that reason alone this is a fantastic place to stay for a weekend or a week's holiday. Half an hour's drive from Utrecht and half an hour's drive from The Hague, you can say that this Landalpark is an ideal base, right? The Randstad is a stone's throw away, but you will also find plenty of opportunities for fun activities or visits to cities closer to home. For example, we were in Gouda, which is about a 10-minute drive from the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Ideal!

Besides the fact that this holiday park is very centrally located, it still gives you a free feeling because it borders the Reeuwijkse Plassen. The Landalpark is located directly adjacent to these lakes, so you can walk straight into this nature reserve from the park. In addition, the houses in this park are almost all located on the water. Peace, space and nature, you will find that here.
We are staying with Lotte in the newest part of the park, namely in a special children's home on the children's island. Not only great on the inside, but also on the outside. The houses on this island are all specially equipped for children (I'll show you the details below), but the island itself is completely fenced.
This way, small children can simply stroll around the island (there are about 8-10 houses on it), play in the central playground, without having to worry about the water around it as a parent.
In addition to the special children's houses, they also have water houses that are really right on the water (very suitable for older children) and you can choose between comfort, luxury or extra luxurious versions of houses. For example, with the extra luxurious variant you also have a sauna in your house.
All houses are modern and attractively furnished on the inside and have a wooden look on the outside, so that Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen matches very well with the natural environment in which it is located.
There is a lot of light coming in through the large windows and there is room for one car at your house. Incidentally, on Kindereiland you park just outside the fence, so that it remains safe for the children.
You can undoubtedly see from the photos above that we feel very comfortable at Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen. Madam didn't make it to the end of the Voice…
The three of us sleep in a 4-person cottage which (of course) offers plenty of space. Lotte has a bedroom to herself, but if Luc had been with her, she would have had to share it. She soon found the chalkboard on the door to claim her room. Me too, by the way 😉 #joke.
Besides such a funny chalkboard, there are many more extras inside the children's home. Think of a child seat in the toilet and a games corner in the living room.
In addition, you also have an extra cot in the bedroom, a stair gate and a step in the bathroom so that they can easily reach the sink.
The kitchen is fully equipped and overlooks the playground. Handy to be able to keep an eye on small children in the playground.
There is no question that sustainability is one of the spearheads in building this Landal park. All Landal holiday parks now have a Green Key certificate, but this park goes 'all the way' in terms of sustainability. All houses are equipped with an air source heat pump for heating and cooling. In addition, the roof of the central building is full of solar panels that generate sufficient energy for all houses. And I personally like that. This way you can still enjoy a nice holiday in a holiday home and at the same time celebrate a slightly more sustainable holiday.

Not all Landal parks have a swimming pool, but they do have an indoor swimming pool on the Reeuwijkse Plassen. However, don't imagine too much of it. It's spacious, but it's also boring 😉 . If you want to swim a few lengths or relax for a while, this pool is ideal. But are your children real water lovers who prefer to spend the whole day looking for fun in a swimming pool when they are on vacation? Then the pool will be a bit disappointing for them.

As far as we're concerned, they don't need much more here (although a nice slide would have been nice) because of all the water that can be found on and outside this park. In the summer you will enjoy nature outside and on the water much more than you will use the swimming pool.
For example, you can sail with your own boat to your house, most houses have a jetty. How cool is that. If you don't have your own boat, you can rent a whisper boat or, for example, a canoe or sup to explore the area by water.
I think it's quite important, good food and drink. I normally think so, let alone when I'm on vacation 😉 . During our stay here we enjoyed breakfast in our holiday home (fresh bread rolls every day if you order them).
And a delicious gourmet on Saturday evening. Super nice to enjoy gourmet meals in your house with your family. In fact, I know people who never gourmet at home but only in a holiday home because of the smell.
That doesn't apply to us, but I don't feel like cooking extensively when I'm away for the weekend. This is a nice alternative! You can order a complete package at the Parkshop.
Would you rather have a bite to eat? Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen can do that very well. You will find restaurant Mercatu in the park itself. Delicious food (lunch or dinner) or just a cup of coffee with something delicious on the side? Everything is possible here! And when it's time for wine, you can also go here 😉 .
There are also more places to eat a bite to eat within walking distance of the park if you want.
Besides the fact that Mercatu is a fine restaurant for the holidaymakers of the Landal park, it is also visited by passers-by who, for example, have enjoyed recreation at the Reeuwijkse Plassen. Moreover, the ice cream parlor also attracts all the attention from outside.
Of course, the swimming pool and the Reeuwijkse Plassen are wonderful places to stay for the children. You can go boating on the lakes, but also fishing and of course supping and in the playground. Have fun being active. In addition, you can enjoy extensive cycling and walking in the area. But the children have also been thought of in the park. For example, we took a look at the -pretty decent- play loft. An attic where the little ones can climb and clamber and where the older children can play billiards and air hockey.
Is the weather nice outside? Then the children can lose their egg on the nature play island. Here too they can climb and clamber on the climbing equipment or zip-line. Delicious, isn't it?
And of course Bollo is also present at Landal de Reeuwijkse Plassen!
Psssttt… don't forget to take a look in the box in the room where the heat pump is installed. It's full of outdoor toys for the kids!
Due to the very central location and the way the park is built (including the attention to sustainability), our review is certainly positive. The swimming pool was not really of added value to us, but we like to explore the area and there are all kinds of options for that.
