Oh yes ! Gili Trawangan, Meno and Air are part of the neighboring island Lombok, but it is easy to visit them during a stay in Bali:"fast boats" shuttle several times a day. On the menu:idleness on white sand beaches, swimming and snorkeling in crystal clear waters. The fish have incredible colors and you can even see sea turtles. On Gili Trawangan, you will see the sunset in the north of the island and have your picture taken on the swings in the water.
It's true. If Indonesia is a Muslim country, Bali is predominantly Hindu, and Buddhist in places. The Balinese are extremely religious and it is possible to see ceremonies and processions almost every day! There are many pretexts:anniversary of a temple, celebration of a deity… The streets smell of incense and you can see offerings everywhere, small banana leaf baskets with food or flowers. If visiting the temples is a must, keep in mind that the best known are not necessarily the prettiest. We fell in love with Pura Kehen and her gigantic ficus tree, Pura Penataran Agung, dedicated to Shiva and Pura Melanting, with all her monkeys.
